I am following a tutorial (link below) on creating a fantasy map.. The chap in the tutorial is using Photoshop but says this stuff should work with GIMP.. Alas it's not.
The tutorial is here. (note he has better drawing skills than me) }}
Under the heading "Block in the bulk shadows" he says..
"Create a new layer and set the blend mode to overlay. I then pick a hard round brush with size set to around 20-30px, and opacity set to pressure sensitive. This means that if I press lightly, I get an almost transparent line, if I press hard, I get a deep opaque black. Oh, and set the brush colour to black.
I do this..
When he does this is paint brush makes the area behind a forest darker. It makes the brown background look darker there.
When I do it, it paints shades of black on the image.
Bound to be something obvious I am missing here. But I sure could use some help here.
Hi all,
Since today , I have a strange behavior when I export a file .
I tried to install again GIMP but I have the same problem for all my exports.
All transparencies are now in yellow when I export a file (I tried PDF , EPS, JPG).
I found nothing in settings . I even initialized all the settings and I still have this problem .
Joined the XCF file and export file
Thank you for your help if you have any ideas on how to solve this problem.
With this program one can generate trees or flower bush and save it as a png file. Every time one click on the 'Draw tree' button give a different result. Design with personal taste can be done with the sliders on the left of the screen. On the right side of the screen one can choose leaves, flowers and wood.

Timely assistance earnestly requested. This HAS to be simple; I am at a loss.
A: See attached –– 'Original - Green Halo'
I seek to Rotate Colors, such that the shaded Greens become shaded grays. That's it.
I'm familiar with Colors > Map > Rotate Colors... , and can Rotate the Greens to any arbitrary color range.
B: See attached –– 'Edit - Rotated-Color Halo'
There is no end of guidance on the art of manipulating grayscale images into endless variants. I cannot for the life of me gain insight on the reverse.
There are a few possibilities to create a spirograph design in gimp using plugins or filters (ex.: GMic-Qt /Testing / Samj / Rendering / Spirographe). One can also use other software with other/more possibilities. The one I like is 'spirograph 2' : http://www.eddaardvark.co.uk/v2/spirogra...2.html#pic
If the design made with this generator is according to one want, then one can click on the button 'Show SVG', copy the generated data from the window that show up, paste it in notebook and save it as a .svg file. One can load this file with all the used colors in Inkscape or as paths in gimp.
A quick example made in gimp :
