When I open Gimp it is using 700mb of RAM before I even open an image.
PC Windows 8.1 / 12GB RAM

When I open Gimp I see from the task manager window it is already using 700mb RAM.

This seems very high -- and results in mouse lag.

Have cleared doc history and reset to defaults.

What am I doing wrong....?!

I have a check ip script that i call on registration page that makes api calls to stopforumspam.org
and if the ip is considered spam i stop them from registration.
Sometimes, some still get through since they could be new spammers which have no been reported to stopforumspam.org yet.
Then I add spam data to stopforumspam.org to contribute to their data.

I wonder how spammers are monitored/detected on GF.

I currently have a GIF waiting to be used as a logo however the background's white.

How can I make the background transparent while saving the file as GIF

What settings are recommended to use Unsharp Mask for landscape and portraits? so that the effect is not too over the top. I experimented a little, seems that I'm quite a bit off. I'd like to know some good starting points for each category.

Hi,

For multiple handheld (bracketting) shots, the subjects are often not aligned exactly. After opening them as layers in GIMP, how to let the software align them based on the subjects in the pictures? There is "align visible layers" option under "image" menu, but I'm not sure how to use it.

I have only discovered what a few do.
For some people it may be experimenting. For others it may be straight forward and others?
Would like to see what people think/know a layer mode does and the best way to implement it.
1. Dissolve - I found out by experimentation that the dissolve mode works best on feathered selections?
2. Overlay - to give an image the texture in the top image

on Gimp Chat...for now.
Slow as and how long has it been since it worked properly?

I think I have messed up my brushes.  I think some default brushes are missing and there may be some kind of corruption.  I also get an error when I try to refresh brushes.  I am using 2.8.14 on windows 8.1 I have pictures of the directories and the error message but this forum does not allow pictures to be posted.    

The error message is about not being able to write to some file.


Is there any way to put my brushes directories back to the default?
