I need help to add Layer via Copy Cut Plugin.I really dont know which folder i am suppose to add this plugin.
I initially added to Share\Gimp\2.0\UI\plugins. But couldnt find Layer via copy & Layer via Cut in the Layer Menu
Pls help me get it perfectly correct

Hi, everyone. Newbie here.

I installed GIMP OK and started to use it. I immediately ran into an issue.

There is a particular Windows 10 font I want to use, Rosewood std regular.  It shows up in MS Word and Excel but not in GIMP.

I spent some time searching the interwebs, looking at various forums (fora?) but to no avail.  It appeared that GIMP is supposed to grab the Windows fonts by default and use them.  Mine stubbornly refuses.  I found a post somewhere that "said do this do that" to load a font. Did not work.

I turned the computer off and on again. That always works. Not for me.

I tried also to register at gimpchat.com but they did not send the registration email - although the message said they did.
I registered at gimptalk.com only find it had died.

So I registered here.

Any suggestions?

We all know that good practice is to 'select all' - 'copy' and then hit preview.
I think everybody has been caught out, after developing one's articulate post.

Such glitches can still happen, but many BB's now use autosave.
It means that you can reload - hit reply - and you have indicated autosaved content to re-load.
It all depends upon the software being used.
 
Today, I selected all, and hit paste, instead of copy 
It was a nooooooooo moment.

First thing that I looked for was the back icon.
I couldn't find it.
Thankfully I knew that there was a fairly standard protocol in use for Windows progs, which is Ctrl + Z.

It worked 

I immediately copied correctly, all the text, and thought, okay, I'll try saving a draft.
The problem was, that the post then disappeared.
It didn't just save the post, it took me to a different place.
 
I then couldn't find the 'load draft' icon.
I looked, but I couldn't see it.
 
In the end, I re-pasted my copied text, re-uploaded the image files.... and continued with the post.

The thing is.... on other forums, I have, on numerous occasions, seen a post started with.... "I had prepared a wonderful post, but lost it".
IE. All that creative work gone.
It crushes the spirit.
 
So... I'm just alerting the administrators that there is no 'back' button on the command list...
... and it is not clear how a saved draft should be loaded.
 
I don't know the solution.
It has happened to me enough times before, so I tend to take extreme precautions.
 
Maybe there should be an auto placed sticky at the top of each forum... or whatever.

Hello all , new to the forum - 

I am trying to clean up lines from a sketch that I scanned into my computer.  The scan settings were the highest quality I could make it.  The sketch was outlined using an artist pen but it left some pixelation around the lines.

I looked up some tutorials and most of them instructed to use the "Levels" and "Threshold" tool to rid of the pixalation.  Except that it just doesn't work!  No matter what settings I use, following all the instructions, any slider changes don't result in anything, even in the most extreme settings!  Nothing changes.  The histogram shows no information.  What am I doing wrong or is this a bug in gimp?  All of my other tools work as expected except for the two I need! Of course, it's always the way things work out..


Here is info on the file, my system.

I am running Gimp 2.8 on Windows 7 (64bit)
It was opened as a RGB, JPG file.  it is one layer

i have multiple directory's containing images all of them should get converted to xcf files and if there are files with the same name in another directory the xcf file should have all of them as layers.

as an example:

input_a/1.png
input_b/1.png
input_c/1.png

get converted into

output/1.xcf

which contains 3 layers called input_a, input_b and input_c.

any help would be appreciated.

I'm new at using GIMP, so probably the answer is easy, but I can't find out what I do wrong. who can help me?

Attached a xcf file with a world map. I would like to change the color of South America to blue.

I have selected South America with
Tools - selection - oval  (remark: I use a Dutch language version, so maybe some translations aren't accurate)

Then
right clic - colors - tint/saturation

In the pop-up screen I select "Green"
and move the 'tint' indicator to value 130.  In this pop-up, the color next to "G" indeed turns blue.

Finally I press OK, and expect South America to become blue, but nothing happens. What goes wrong?

Who can shine light in my darkness?  Thanks already.

In step 4 the actual texture is created.

a.) I can imitate the 'PS Note paper Filter' with bumpmapping.
Just using a white layer with RGB noise as the bumpmap works fine.

b.) I can also sort of imitate the 'PS Stained Glass Filter' with Gimp's Mosaic filter. Here is what it looks like in PS:

   

c.) But im lost at the 'PS Glowing Edges Filter'. It seems to run an edge detect and strokes the edges with the same color of the tiny squares...

   

....because when i go higher with the values, i get something that looks similar to 'G'MIC - Contours - Morphological Filter'

   

I tried all the Edge Detect filters, but i am having no luck.
There is a filter in XnView, called 'Edge Enhance'...do we have something like this in Gimp ?

This is my first post here and I hope I do not brake any rules etc.
I have searched forums but I could not really find the answer I was looking for (or I searched wrong)

I am developing aircraft for X-Plane simulator.
The newest version of it has ability to edit how metallic and shiny object is.

Without going into details, friend of mine told me that I need to paint in blue channel with colors from black through any shades of grey to white.
This different "grayness" will give in simulator different levels of surface looking like metal.

To make object more or less shiny( reflective), I am supposed to also make a map from black-any shade of grey-white color map and paste it into alpha channel.

My questions are:

1. How do I paint in blue channel?
Can I paint in different layer with different shades of grey and then just copy and paste it into blue channel?
Do R and G channels need to be visible while I m doing it?

2. How do I paint in alpha channel?
Do I also make my grey shades map in different layer and then paste it into alpha channel?

I am sure these are the basic, trivial questions but I am not even close to feel comfortable with Gimp except routine things I do all the time with UV maps.

Please explain it to me in the simplest way possible.
