Strange Result that might be related to Color Profiles |

I originally thought this problem pertained to my printer and or related software. However, after some experimentation I'm now thinking it is related to image editing which was done with GIMP.
In this case, I was editing a jpg file whose metadata did NOT include an ICC Profile. When GIMP opened the file there was no mention of any ICC Profile. The assigned color profile was the "GIMP built in sRGB" Profile which was no surprise. However, when I went to print the edited version of the picture on my Canon Pixma Pro 100 photo printer the result was drastically different (extremely pale in one case) from what was expected. I then went back and opened the saved .xcf file and performed an ICC profile conversion to a different profile that I normally use for the resulting image files from my photo editing. That file printed as expected.
Unlike this situation most of my photo editing pertains to raw files from my own cameras (Note: raw files get developed using other software before being processed by GIMP). This experience makes me think I need to gain a better understanding of the difference between Conversion and Assignment when it comes to color profiles. I have reviewed the GIMP User Manual but I'm afraid it is no help when trying to understand what is going on in the scenario described herein.

Ok, so i have 6 black and white images that i opened as a stack in gimp 2.10. I have adjusted the levels to where they need to be. Now, i have made the mode from grayscale to rgb.
I go colors>colorize and add the color im looking for. However, once i hit ok, i cant seem to find how to re-open the colorize box with the last color i used so i can change the color if i do not like it. ctrl+z is not an option because sometimes i need to change the color of the 6th photo just enough for it to change the entire stack a little bit. Unless there is a better way to coloize eac photo.
I got the photos from the james web telescope. its the raw data. They were in fits files but i have converted them and aligned them using other software, now its just time to colorize each layer (named after the IR filter used) to the right color as per this image. Southern Ring Nebula (NIRCam Compass Image) | Webb (webbtelescope.org)
But i have found that i sometimes need to go back and adjust the color.
thanks

Maybe the last of the Gimp 2.10 series but my first AppImage made on Debian.
Built from a deb file, it uses all listed dependencies (part of the deb package spec). These AppImages are basically the same as installing Gimp with apt.
Python2 is included along with MathMap but it could be the last time for MathMap. It needs updating to GTK3 and the menu paths issue fixed.
I found GEGL has been expanded and now uses a lot more small libs than Gimp 2.10.36. I think people will like and use this improved GEGL.
There are two AppImages one for overlay (Ubuntu) and fuse (Debian). Tested on Ubuntu 22.04 and Debian 12 bookworm. I'm pretty sure it will not work on Ubuntu 24.04.
The fuse AppImage needs ' sudo apt install fuse-overlayfs '
