Simple question from a newbie regarding manipulating a picture.  The software is great and I am really trying to learn how to do things for myself rather than constantly ask the community to help me do what I need.  In that vein, I would like to know how to remove the text and imaging from the shirt below, while actually maintaining proper shading and lighting of the shirt, rather than simply painting over the image on the shirt in black?  Any help or direction would be appreciated.

I would like to make these wheels black.

What is the easiest way to do this?
I have tried watching a few Youtube tutorials, but none worked for me.

Do I need to outline the wheel?
Or can I do a "color picker" type of change?
(Change the silver range pixels in a selection to black)

Here's my trouble: I can't apply colors on my sheets with painting tools. I've chosen the primary color, and no color comes out of my brush/pencil/aerograph...

My first post here. 

I use the Gimp animation player quite a bit to test animations. I've noticed two things recently.

 The animation player ignores dim backgrounds on transparent (alpha) layers.
This looks like a 'foreground extract' filter that appears to be coded-in. It could work as a stand alone filter.

 Also there is an icon in the top menu that says 'detach the animation from the dialogue window'.
I'm not sure what this actually does. Any ideas?

when i open an multi layered .xcf file in gimp most of the layers are text after few seconds i hear a strange sound from hdd listen below:

what i need to do to hear that sound is to not move mouse or touch keyboard 10-15 seconds

I like the way this photo (https://www.flickr.com/photos/152818709@...d-public/) looks and would like to apply a similar style to other photos.

I realize that the photo has vignetting and softening but what I'm not clear on is how to take a black and white photo and map the range of grays to the same tones in this photo. This photo was converted to this style using an in-camera style which is why I don't really know how it was done in-camera.

Is it possible and if so, how might it be done?

I worked for a long time without issues with GIMP version 2.8, then suddenly after a Mac restart it started throwing the above when launching the app. I reinstalled 2.8.22, but it didn't fix the issue.
