Download from OCAL, either as vector or png in three sizes.
They are all blurry/build from gradients, so good for bumpmapping !

Some of the png's are not seamless, but the svg is.
Just download the svg, open in Inkscape and scale with the selection tool. Its a patternfill and will always fill the square.

The main points are

Make a shape with the paths tool.
Export that as a gimp SVG file.

Open that in Inkscape
Fill with text
Convert the text to a path for opening in Gimp.
Save as an Inkscape SVG
Open Inkscape SVG in Gimp

Hello...

I've overlayed just a headshot over another image of a girl bowling....I'd like to add some text to the image of the girls stats and year in high school, etc.

I activated the text tool, and start entering text into the image, but the text is too tiny to even see. I can't even increase the size in pixels, or pts, etc, large enough to see it no matter what I try.

The other thing I'm noticing is when I increase the text size it keeps reverting back to 18px

I was curious about whats the best size for custom brushes.
Always had the idea in my head that bigger is better, but when looking at my chart, thats not true at all.

The 300px star brush doesnt look very good when scaled down a lot.

Does anybody know whether the scaling algorithm you can choose in the settings has an effect on scaling brushes ?

   

I've just tried to install a Huion H420 graphic tablet on my laptop.   I can use it and the associated pen to draw in Paint.net and Windows Ink Workspace, but it's not working properly in GIMP 2.8.22.    

In GIMP  I can use the pen to move the mouse pointer around and to select things and click on them.   However, I can't do any freehand drawing using the pen or brush tools.   Holding down my left mouse button and dragging the pointer round works.   Holding down the top pen button (the pen's equivalent of the left mouse button) doesn't.

What am I doing wrong?    I've tried both Window and Screen in File>Configure Input Devices for the Huion Tablet but neither seems to do what I want.

I created a logo and uploaded to a web page, as you can see by the attached image "HIRED", the lettering/text doesn't look clear. It is Arial 11 on a transparent background. Gimp 2.8
The link to the home page "Home" is attached. it is not part of the logo, but looks much clearer on the web page.
Is there something I can do to help make the logo text sharper/clearer?
Any help will be appreciated.

Again, coming from the Felt Thread.

I did it by applying the felt texture, which has a lot of white with a bit of medium gray, with the 'Value' Blendmode to the colour shapes (1.), and it seems, there arent any other options, except 'Multiply'.

This worked well for me, however whenever i applied a Bevel to a shape, the highlights and shadows were invisible (2.), because of the 'Value' layer on top, so that i had to put them one step higher in the z-order (3.).

   

One would think that the values of the grayscale texture, combined with coloured shapes in 'Colour' Mode, would result in a good looking colorized result, but the colours always look washed out...i guess because of the missing Saturation information ?

Coming from the Felt thread, i want to show you all a few things i observed regarding brushes.

The goal was to make a stitch brush.
The Spoongraphics example was apparently made from an image of a real thread, but i couldnt find a good quality photo of a thread in high definition, so i made a pattern from scratch in Inkscape.

   

The goal was to make it into a custom brush by bevelling the vector-thread-mockup and then convert into a brush.

Wasnt sure about the size, but it appears to me, that much bigger is not better, because it gets blurry when downsized anyway.

Also i was surprised that a greyscale brush always produces partially transparent brushes (left and right in figure 1).
So i ditched the idea of a greyscale brush and used a simple b/w brush instead (middle of figure 1).

When i applied the stitches with the Size/Direction Brush Dynamic, the stitches came out in varying quality depending on the angle.
In comparison i applied the same brush as a 'Pattern Along Path' in Inkscape and the result is of course much much better.
Finally i gave both versions a Bevel.

The outer Stitch was made with Inkscape and bevelled in Gimp, the inner completely in Gimp (figure 2).
