Does gimp have optical filter imitations?
Posted by: godek - 12-11-2017, 01:56 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (20)

I saw this in this book called mastering filters for photography. I am guessing it is from photoshop. Here is the image below.
I am curious if gimp has anything like this or ufraw does maybe? I tried looking for it but wasn't able to find it as why I am asking here in this forum.

Auto resize layer boundary after moving layer?
Posted by: micha - 12-11-2017, 12:34 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

Hi there,

I'm a little struggling with layer boundaries in gimp. Confused
Maybe it's because I'm more used to photoshop...

If I move a layer, the layer boundary does not contain the whole canvas any more. This seems very odd to me, because I can't fill or draw at the whole canvas anymore. First, I have to resize the boundary manually.

Is there a way to resize the layer boundary automatically after moving the layer? Basically I want the layer boundary allways fit at least the canvas... is this possible?

I'm using gimp 2.8 on windows

Thanks,
Micha

Do I Make Graphic Design for Print Size Correctly?
Posted by: TechnicGeek - 12-09-2017, 04:54 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

Hello,

I have been designing for not long time and I still feel that I don't connect some dots properly.

I am mainly interested in knowing how to make final design file print compatible.
I want to make sure it will 300 DPI and be in high resolution to be printable.

Here's my workflow:

1. I download free clipart/vector and immediately open it in GIMP
2. I do adjustments, add other elements from other files, add text
3. Before finishing and exporting graphic I set print size to 300 DPI in "Image" > "Print Size"
4. I flatten everything and export into .PNG ready to print

- Do you see any mistake in this process that would make final design not print-ready?
I am concerned about opening .JPG/.PNG graphic elements. Must they be 300 DPI before I even start working with them?

- Does it matter when I set "Print Size" to 300 DPI? Must it be done in the beginning or as long as it's done before
exporting project to final design, it does not matter?

- I often would create new page where I would modify graphic elements and I would not set DPI before I do that.
Is it bad?

Thanks!

What is a Yellow Selection and How to Deselect It?
Posted by: TechnicGeek - 12-09-2017, 12:45 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

I have often yellow selection appearing that I want to get rid of because I can't seem to work outside of that selection. So far it appeared when I pasted new later and had to anchor it. The selection still stayed there after anchoring. Another time it appeared was when I resized canvas. New canvas was alpha color and I could not paint it white because I could not work outside of that selection. This is a selection that I am talking about:

Why do I need this selection and how to deselect it?

Thanks.

can I make this font effect into its own font?
Posted by: gib65 - 12-08-2017, 09:25 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

Hello,

I created the image below in Gimp:

What I did was I typed out "nuclear powered engine" and then selected the text and stroked it with red.

Now I'm wondering if it's possible to make this into a customized font--that is, a yellow font that is automatically stroked in red (1 pixel thick). Is this possible?

Thanks.

script-fu convert pdf to png WITHOUT antialiasing
Posted by: vrjansen77 - 12-08-2017, 02:45 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (6)

I am not familiar with script-fu and I really have the urgent need for a script that converts a PDF to a PNG without the anti-aliasing. (raw). I want to do this with the Gimp because of the perfect result but till this moment I am not able to write a script that does also set the anti-aliasing off.

Please can somebody help me???

Thanks in advance!!!

How to Turn Raster Image into Black & White with Outlines?
Posted by: TechnicGeek - 12-08-2017, 09:29 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

Hello,

I want to learn how to turn raster image into black and white with outline like this raster:

Into styles like these, while giving preference to first figure because it is more detailed:

Must vectorization be as part of the entire process or it can be done without conversion to vector?

Thanks.
