I just downloaded GIMP and it's not displaying characters correctly

First off, I'm going to say that I am an absolute newbie at this, so I apologize If I'm asking a question that has been asked numerous times already.  Thank you all in advance for your help

And now for the problem.

I'm trying to crop out parts of the flag below and leave only the part that the crab touches behind. In addition, I'd to like overwrite the crab's texture with that of the flag.  Basically I'm trying to recreate that Maryland flag sticker that people have on their cars.  I have everything sized the way I want it, but I don't really know where to proceed from here.  Help would be most appreciated.

I have a few tablets.  One of them I want to use, but the other ones I don't.

In the 'Configure Input Devices' window there is a massive list of devices that I don't intend to use.  It is a mess, but I don't see any way to remove unused devices.

Is there an easy way to clean up the list and keep the device I want?

Did a search, but no results...

There is no pan tool in GIMP?  Similar to the "Hand Tool" in Photoshop.

I've just downloaded the latest version of GIMP for Mac to remove the timestamps from a set of photos. However I can't seem to find the Heal Selection option? I perform a very repetitive task which I would like to automate.

I have a lot of PDF files, that I need to cut in pieces, watermark them (based on name of source file) and then save them back as PDF. For example

This is the source file called Sample.PDF (attached)


  sample.pdf (Size: 255.98 KB / Downloads: 1049)

I insert 2 horizontal guides to divide the file in three areas (the guides are always horizontal). They location and number of the guides varies from file to file.

Then I use the Guillotine tool to split the file in 3 files. Each of these files have to be watermarked at the bottom as Sample_00, Sample_01, Sample_02 and saved as Sample_00.pdf, Sample_01.pdf and Sample_02.pdf respectively (attached).


  sample_00.pdf (Size: 200.14 KB / Downloads: 644)

  sample_01.pdf (Size: 48.52 KB / Downloads: 681)

  sample_02.pdf (Size: 48.64 KB / Downloads: 636)

I am not fussed about the naming format as long as it starts with the name of the source file and ends with a sequence number.

I have been trying to automate the following steps
1. Run Guillotine
2. Add watermark (format eg Sample_nn) near the middle bottom of the page generated by guillotine
3. Save files as Sample_nn.pdf in the same directory as the source file.

I am afraid I don't enough Scricpt-Fu or Pyton-Fu to be able to do it. Could any one of you assist please? Much appreciate your help !

Hi there. Can someone who is an expert with Gimp help me with a problem? I have pasted an image of an iridology chart below. I want to remove the white from this image altogether, so that the white layer is totally transparent. When I overlay this on the image of an iris, I will therefore be able to see the black lines and labels, but not the white, which will be transparent, showing the image of the eye that I have overlaid it on.

Also, is there a way of changing the colour of the black lines to another colour? This isn't essential, but it would be good if I could do this.

If you are able to help with my question, could you give me easy directions about how to do this, as I am not a regular Gimp user.

I'm really frustrated.  I've tried this with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 (all I had access to), and now GIMP.

I can't figure out how to select an entire image WITHOUT the white space in GIMP.

The video tutorial (how to make paper miniatures for gaming) is located below. I'm getting stuck at or around 3:30.  The portion of the video dealing with Photoshop is relatively short, so anyone willing to give pointers on how to do anything else in the video would be my hero!

I just upgraded to Gimp 2.8.22. Then I downloaded layerfx.2.8.py and copied it to my scripts folder. I shut down and restarted Gimp and did a refresh scripts but the layer effects scripts do not appear. 

Any ideas on how to resolve? This is my first attempt at using scripts and I'd like to get this working so I can try some others. Thanks so much for the help.

BTW, I'm running OS 10.12.6 - Sierra

I have a bunch of dark brown colors surrounded by blue. The dark brown regions are not all uniformly dark brown. Is there a way to select a region within the blue outline (the predominantly dark brown) and color it all brown?
