  Installing Photoshop filters/plug-ins in GIMP
Posted by: Peregrinus - 10-03-2021, 02:10 AM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (5)

Greetings,

I'm running gimp 2.10.20 on a Windows 10 pro machine.

I recently tried to upgrade a set of filters/plug-ins that I have been using successfully for a while.

I followed the instructions to tell gimp where to find plug-ins and send a message to say that the new folder and being recognised and will be saved.

I closed the gimp started it again and recognised performed and displayed the plug-ins/filters.

When I tried to apply filter to an image and image it did not work..

I would be grateful for any ideas on how to fix this

Regards

  Color palettes vanished!
Posted by: Marty0750 - 10-02-2021, 08:31 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Was working on colorizing an image. Usually clicking the palette icon a displays list of all available palettes, including the ones I created.  But suddenly they all disappeared except the last one I created. All the others have vanished into thin air. Relaunching or loading another job makes no difference. How do I get them back?

  make chopped paths batch active
Posted by: denzjos - 10-01-2021, 03:26 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (13)

The 'chop' plugin from Ottia Tuota gave me the idea to experiment with gimp paths and animated light. Is there a plugin / script that chop a path in linear calculated pieces or in exponential calculated pieces ? I also want to know if there exist a plugin / script that can set chopped paths as even or uneven numbered paths active. Or is there a plugin / script that set paths active with a given period and starting from a given number ? As example starting from path named 'path1' with a period value 4, then 'path2' with a period value '4' and so on. Thanks for your answer in advance.

  Script-Fu Plug in
Posted by: gazza - 10-01-2021, 02:26 AM - Forum: Older Gimp versions (2.8, 2.6....) - Replies (4)

Hi folks (Me again)
I have started trying to get my head around Layer Modes. I have downloaded a tutorial which is not too heavy, and hope this will be a start. However, the tutorial mentions a Script-Fu plug in (Copy layer mask from above). I can't seem to find it and was wondering if it has been superceded?

I don't understand how to use difference clouds, or achieve a similar result
Posted by: Geocide - 09-30-2021, 06:01 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hello, I am trying to apply a difference clouds effect to a specific section of green on my canvas. Right now I'm following a tutorial on Teardown's heightmaps, and they use a difference clouds effect to give the grass layer some texture:
https://youtu.be/aQviv2BuP2c?t=351
This link is timestamped to 5:51, where he uses this effect.
Unfortunately, this tutorial was done in photoshop, and so I can't follow along very easily. I've looked at other forum posts, youtube videos, talked to friends, and I just can't figure out how to use this effect. One source said that the way to do this is to use a solid noise filter on a layer whose mode is set to Difference. This was my best lead, but it turned all the grass pink, and I'm not sure why.
So to be more clear, I'm asking if there is a way to achieve this effect or something similar in gimp. The grass layer must maintain a red and blue value of 0, or else it will interfere with other aspects of the heightmap. Linked is my current project, so that you can have a better idea of what I'm trying to do.

  Move tool: Select layers?
Posted by: Marscaleb - 09-30-2021, 05:14 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

It used to be that when I used the move tool and had it set to "pick a layer or guide" the layer I pick would become the active layer.
Now when I do that it reverts the active layer back to what it was before I moved anything.

Okay, I can see how people might prefer it to work that way.  But its driving me up the wall because that's not the behavior I'm expecting.
How do I switch it back so that "pick a layer" will change the currently-selected layer to whatever layer I click?  Where is the option to make that tool work the way it used to?

Merging layers changes the pixel colors
Posted by: garyaum - 09-30-2021, 02:21 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

I have an application that requires combining multiple layers all with single color elements on transparency. This worked fine the first time I tried it but now at the borders the pixel colors are being changed. For example where a black edge met a red/blue surface some pixels have now changed from 7f007f to 7c007c. This is a total disaster for my application. Why is this happening and how do I prevent it? I have checked the process at every step. I have selected and deleted all the transparent areas and confirmed that it included the pixel in question. I have checked the pixel before the merge and after the merge and it is altered after the merge. Any suggestions are appreciated. I hate to dig out my ancient copy of PaintShopPro to do such a trivial task. This is not rocket science and should be a simple process.

I am checking the pixel color with the color picker tool before and after the merge. It only affects a few pixels at the edges of the overlay but even one pixel being changed invalidates the image. I get the same result exporting the image to a single layer format (.bmp)
