There are a dozen and a half things with GIMP 2.10 that are driving me up the wall, but to be reasonable here I'm just going to have to bring them up separately as they come up.

Okay, I was using the crop tool, I dragged out a box, decided that I shouldn't crop this, and thus clicked a different tool.
And GIMP cropped my image.

WHAT IN THE HOLY HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!
At what point EVER is it a reasonable idea to have a tool impact an image WHEN I EXPLICTLY TELL IT TO NOT USE THAT TOOL?!?!
What kind of backwards design is this?
If I select a paint brush tool and then select a different tool would it be reasonable to expect the paintbrush to suddenly draw all over my image?  Of course not.  So why is the crop tool cropping my image when I EXPLICITLY TAKE ACTION TO NOT HAVE MY IMAGE BE CROPPED?!

This is the most asinine design I have ever seen in a program, and I use Microsoft products.

How exactly am I supposed to NOT have my image crop if I ever select this tool?
I mean for f***'s sake, not even counting just when I change my mind once I actually can see a box at a specified aspect ratio, what if I selected that tool by mistake and drew out a box over a tiny section of my image?  I would be able to clearly see the mistake, but yet it is utterly IMPOSSIBLE to simply cancel the action?  I HAVE to actually crop my image and un-do?  What kind of sense does that make?  Even if there was some one person out there who managed to find this useful, why can't I disable this backwards design?

I am not a frequent or expert GIMP user, in fact I don't do a lot of image editing at all, and most of what I do do is very simple stuff like cropping an image. So please don't assume I have a lot of prior knowledge about GIMP. What I was wanting to know is if there is any way to load an image, record the actions I take to modify that image and the options used when saving it, and then apply that to several hundred other images in a directory.

To be more specific, what I have is several hundred images that have a significant transparent border. All I want to do is automatically crop the images so that all the excess transparency is discarded. If I were doing this on a single image, I would do it this way:

•     Load the image
  
•     Use the fuzzy select in any corner to select the transparent part
  
•     Invert the selection (If there is a better way to select non-transparent parts only, I'm not aware of it).
  
•     Crop to selection
  
•     Export the image as a .png file to a different directory but with the same filename, with none of the options selected in the popup that you get when you export a .png image (basically I uncheck everything, also I make sure maximum compression is selected).
  

I understand the symbol being the same since gimp creation.

but I don't want that ugly poorly drawn dog in my desktop area.

I used to scale up extremely small images (40 x 40px for example) to about 1200 x 1200px without any interpolation (interpolation method: "none"). This worked perfectly fine, producing .xcf files of <1MB in size. 

Recently I cannot make this work, as whenever I try, GIMP warns me that the resulting image will be over 2GB (!!!) in size which is above the max size I allow in options. The issue remains if I choose extremely low X & Y resolution (the image size would then be 700MB). 

Does any of you have any idea what could've changed and how to make this work again? My current version is 2.10.24.

I have been using Gimp 2.10.18 on a Kubuntu 20.04  (Ubuntu 20.04 with KDE) system.

I have a 757 kB pdf file that I would like open with high resolution.
After a given high resolution (e.g. 6000 dpi) I am getting the following error message:

Calling error for procedure 'gimp-image-insert-layer':

Procedure 'gimp-image-insert-layer' has been called with an invalid ID for argument 'layer'.
Most likely a plug-in is trying to work on a layer that doesn't exist any longer.

I understand that the theoretical resolution limit is 65535 dpi, and I can increase the required max memory that Gimp uses.
(In this implementation, if the image requires more memory than set in the preferences, the system simply just asks for it for me to agree.)

Any way to open such a file with high resolution?

I'm trying to do some basic photo modification but I'm hitting this problem with the "Feather edges" option for the select tools where it's leaving transparent gaps. What I'm doing is:

1. Use the free select tool with feather edges turned on to select a foreground object from a photo
   
2. Cut and paste the selection to a new layer, leaving a transparent hole in the original

I would like to clean my GIMP up
Especially all the "FX_foundry" (absolutely useless for me and most of them are not working), and the "video" as you can see in the screenshot (same i never use it)

   

The thing is how to not mistaken them with plugins that I am using like few in the script-fu menu or other part in the menu?
Is there something in GIMP that have them listed with their file name with corresponding name in the menu with a delete option? (a bit like plugin-browser/procedure browser)
or any suggestion

Hi there, newbe here.

I have been using GIMP for a couple of weeks now an am very pleased with my experience so far. I especially like the animated brush feature. Unfortunately I am getting some issues with it. Some custom animated brushes I set up for random scatter get very annoying artifact around the edges. I suspect they might have something to do with the alpha channel?

I am using GIMP 2.10.28 on a Win10 64bit PC and imported .png files I created in Photoshop to generate the animated brushes. As you can see in the attachment, the random scattered apples have these artifacts all around, while the coins I created earlier look just fine. Is there some option or knowledge I am missing? I really like the use of animated brushes and would be grateful for any help.
