Hi! I just updated to 2.10.22 yesterday (macOS) and began some new projects. I noticed that creating any selection area, with any tool that CAN create a selection area, does not display the marching ants anymore. Anyone out there have a fix for that? I can't seem to find an option for this in preferences.

Also... is one of the macOS bugs for gimp just it running slower than normal?

I want to select only black but I get greys in the selection as well.

How do I select only black?

With the decorate / Arrow Heads Ofnuts plugin I've tried to draw arrowheads on both ends of a circle segment. It's a segment from a circle I've cut with the Tools / Cropping and slicing / Slice path by lines. The upper arrowhead is ok but the lower arrowhead is not wel oriented. Any suggestions to solve this problem? Thanks in advance. 
PS : The drawing in attachment is a detail of a bigger drawing, so zoom in to see the problem.

Using GIMP 2.8 I initially, because I am a beginner and did not understand how to fully use GIMP, I made a simple ‘square’ logo for a Subscribe Button. The ‘square’ logo subscribe button was my first attempt and it uploaded on my YouTube channel properly and it works. I did not use any coloring on the ‘square’ logo, and no ‘button shape.’

After watching, and following, two “How to Create a Subscribe Button,” videos, in order to improve my site, I decided to make a regular ‘Subscribe Button.’ I actually made several, but, no matter how I change it, none of the buttons will upload. I am giving one example of several. So, obviously, I am doing something wrong.

Looking forward to obtain a better understanding of GIMP. I am a Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia OS user and use GIMP 2.8.

You must get asked this all the time but it's really hard (or impossible) to google for the answer. 

Ubuntu 18.04 GIMP 2.10.14

In photoshop if I select something in one layer, say, a box, and then switch to another layer, the selection box is still there, serving to select something on the other layer.

In GIMP which I switch layers, the selection disappears.  Each layer has it's own selections.

Am I clear, or does that not sense?  

How do I select something in one layer and then keep the selection active when I switch to a different layer?

Since you've been asked this a million times, feel free to point me to a thread that answers this.  (Again this is hard to search for.)

I am trying to develop my first python script and i am stumbling into some questions,
i am quite stuck ....
and i am wondering whether i am searching for something which is not possible:


a) As a starting point i was trying to recreate the  Brightness-Contrast menu using the: pdb.gimp_drawable_brightness_contrast() function.

I managed to setup the UI for brightness and contrast, but:
I would like to be able to recreate the functionality of the original menu,
especially including the realtime update in my image,
which the original gimp menu is capable off, but how? is it even possible?

b) I would like to be able to create several python scripts which are able to call each other,
but i could not find a error-free way to call another python script.
For example: the first file  "contrast_filter.py" which calls after execution the second file   "levels_filter.py"


Any suggestions would be very appreciated - Thanks

I'm using a Mac (OSX Big Sur) and when using either McGimp or Gimp, my cursor is nearly always misaligned with what actually happens on screen - I have to aim the cursor above wherever I'd like to do something. I'm using the Mac's trackpad.

There's also a lag when doing certain things, such as cutting an area after selecting it. I have to save and reopen the file to see the area cut out.

Any ideas? Is it down to it being Big Sur?

How do you make shiny, metallic text like in the image below?
