I use Gimp and Blender to make my Videos, I have an Animation of the Sun Series:

The Corona or Radiating Fire of the Sun has a hard edge on both sides sometime, sometimes they extend up and down, but not much, and the few times this did happen I fixed them by hand, but the side ones do not look good. 

This is a NASA public domain images of the Sun in AIA 193 4096x4096 format, with an Environment image texture of the Stars as background using Blender. 

What I want to do is soften the hard line so it looks more like this:



I just did a fast Smudge by hand in GIMP, this was originally a Blender question.

There are over 33,333 images for one Year and I have over 6 years of images that I am working with, that is over 200,000 images, so I can not do this by hand in my lifetime since I am dying of Cancer my time is limited, I am old and have Arthritis as well, so it would be a very painful way to go out, and I might not finish it, so why start, but I wanted to finish this series, and go back and do years before the series started, which is 2010, so people can view the sun over a decade, but the hard edge looks bad, and I know there is a way to fix this, but I am not good enough at blender or Gimp to figure it out, I think I ask once a year, and try to figure out how to fix it, my guess is that I need to write a script that takes the edges of the images and blurs or smudges it side ways in an oval shape, but I know even less about it when it comes to automating edits in gimp, then I do about Blender, not even sure it can be done, no idea how to do that, anyone have any ideas?

I originally did the video in 1080, now I want to render it in 2160, since the originals are larger then the 3840, it should look good at 4k, but I want to fix this issue since it will take a long time to render all these images in Blender.

I'm trying to edit a path in GIMP. When clicking on certain nodes, the bezier handles don't appear to be in the correct location. One of the handles is placed right at the point of the node, making it almost impossible to move the node without moving the handle.
It doesn't happen for all points, just certain ones.

I increased the size of a font to 2600, but the line weight of the font, also increases, is there any way to decrease the font weight without reducing the SIZE?



In the attachment, I need The font in 2, to match the font weight in 1.

Blurring or blending between two colors tends to result in colors in the middle that are too dark. In Photoshop, there's a setting called "Blend RGB Colors Using Gamma" which solves this blending issue. In GIMP, I've heard some talk about a similar solution, but have not been able to find clear instructions on how to do it.

This video talks more specifically about what exactly the problem I'm looking to solve is. (The relevant bit starts at 2:17.)

I would like to create a layer which is only used for the final transparency.
The layer's RGB to be completely ignored and have no affect on the final merging of the layers.
This is used to "cutout" parts of the final image.
I already have a layer with a mask which is used for semi-transparency. I would prefer not to touch this layer.

Is it possible to set this up in Gimp?

The DIFF layer is used. The layermask is for semi-transparent areas.
I want the cutout layer to only make certain sections of the final image completely transparent.

Hi all,
I am pretty new at GIMP and just use it occasionally. I would like to cut down a layer to a specific path I have created so that the image matches up with that layer. I have the path created, but can't figure out how to make the crop happen since it is only a partial selection. I have attached my .xcf file.

GIMP Git Edition(2.9.5).
Now, the Free Selection Tool needs to press the Enter key to take effect, and it feels very inconvenient.
(New function: also can move nodes after connection.)

My advice is to cancel this new feature.
What do you guys think?

So uhh, my Layers disappeared, I was making a YouTube Banner and was recommended this, I was like, this shouldn't be so bad, it was... It was rage inducing, and to learn to use the darn thing I have to pay money? What? Also I had the tool box, the actual screen, and the layers, but now the layers and stuff are gone, I got the layers back, but now I don't have the background that came with Gimp... How do I get them back? And how do I color separate letters? Any video or answers for all my questions? Please and thank you.

Hi, after accidentally (silly I know) trashing my .gimp-2.8 folder I am unable to get two of my favourite and most used plugins to work together. These are Mathmap and GMIC. If I install only one or the other they work. But if I install them both only the latterly installed plugin works.

I *think* I have narrowed the problem down to the libfftw3-3.dll that both are dependent on. I've also noticed that the .dll for Mathmap is nearly twice the size as the one for GMIC.

I have had those two working together before so I'm at a loss as to why the won't do so now. Any ideas folks?

I'm on Windows by the way.
