When using Engrampa to open a zip file, I get

Gimp Opening file for reading: Permission Denied

When attempting to use Blend, Rippling, Spinning Globe, Waves, in the Animation section of Gimp 2.10.6, with windows 10 version 1809, I get the following message.   atom>string: needs 1 argument.
Please how do I fix this or are there some alternative scripts.

No matter what settings I use (at least the settings that I am aware of), when I am outputting a file, the resulting files are blurry and hard to read.

I'm uploading examples so you can see what I mean. In this case I typed up some nonsense in Word, printed it out and scanned it as a PDF. Then I opened the PDF in GIMP and made no changes to the file. I outputted the files as both a PDF (soft and blurry), and a PNG (okay, but prints out soft and blurry). I have even tried printing directly from GIMP and it didn't improve anything.

If it helps to know this, the original document was scanned at 400x400 black and white.

How do I fix this problem? I tried inputting the original PDF into GIMP at various DPIs and it didn't change anything. Am I just using the wrong software for this sort of thing?

Hi everyone,

I am simply trying to make a picture of a molecular formula darker. When I use the brightness-contrast tool or the levels tool, the preview shows the desired result, but when I press okay it reverts to the original. What can I do to remedy this?

I am trying to make a logo in which I need an alpha background so only my logo shows and nothing else. The attachment is an example of what I'm trying to do. When I made this in 2.8 I started with a blank page and simply clicked on Colors --> Color to alpha and it would do so. Then I just had to copy and paste a selection from a rectangle or eclipse for free select. and wham I got my PNG. Now it appears that is no longer possible. I've tried everything I know but I can't seem to get that invisible background. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

My characters appear to float above my background layer. I have tried using drop shadows but that doesn't seem to do the job of making the characters look more natural. Tried attaching the xcf file but always get error page.

I have been trying to post a new thread but every time I click on the save draft, preview or post buttons I get a page not found error.

Gimp 2.10

I used to do this in 2.8 but I'm coming up with an error message now. 
Click file --> Create --> Render --> Star Scape. 
In 2.8 this procedure would create a starscape background and I could adjust the color, cloud number and more.
Now I get an error message. Please see attached photo.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

When i try to index a 24-bit image with less than 16 colors (with the default indexing settings), gimp reduces the bit depth to 4-bit, but i need it to be 8-bit. Is there any way i can stop gimp from reducing the bit depth too much?
