XCF save file too big (error when saving)
Posted by: margimp - 04-17-2018, 05:17 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

Hello, I'm having trouble trying to save a "project" (xcf file) on GIMP. I get the following error: "could not seek in xcf file invalid argument". From what I managed to find online it may be because the save file size is over 2GB. I wanted to know if there are any workarounds for this issue and also know why is the XCF so big when my original image is a jpg file of only 130mb and I have barely added any features in it, just about 4 paths. The bottom part of the gimp window is showing "filename.jpg (7.9GB)" and I have no idea where did that 7.9GB came from since, like I said, I've opened a 130mb jpg image. I used to have a ~7.5GB filme with the same name as this one (higher res version) but I've deleted it already and opened gimp by right clicking the new file (130mb) and selecting "open with GIMP".

Thanks in advance.

  Red=Grey?
Posted by: Lt.LowSelfEsteem - 04-16-2018, 04:03 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

So I've been working on this picture, but I've run into a roadblock.

I want to make this black bat red. So I use the fuzzy select tool ad highlight the bat.

I select my desired shade of red and click on the bucket tool, all is going according to plan.

So I click on the bat with my bucket selected and...

What? This isn't just exclusive to red, with green it turns to a lighter grey and with yellow it turns white. What am I missing so that I can make the bat the color I've actually selected?

  Resizing images
Posted by: Spyk - 04-15-2018, 05:58 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

I don't know how awkward of a question this is but here we go. So I am making art for a program called Hyperspin. The program naturally runs at a 4:3 ratio. I would like to upscale my art for it to HD standards. Unfortunately it is not as simple as clicking an option in the program. If you hit full screen it just stretches images to match the new ratio and everything looks stretched out. I would like to resize everything for 1080p and 4k as well but haven't the slightest of how to go about this to ensure that it displays correctly, compensating for the stretch the program is going to do and to make sure my image quality isn't trashed by the resizing. So far all other information I have been able to find info on the web for. This one I can't seem to find a damned thing for without being referred to flash. I wouldn't mind doing so but I would rather not pay a monthly subscription for a program (one time fee and I would be fine). Anyone have any information that could help me out here?

Trouble following the luminosity mask tutorial.
Posted by: kirbywan - 04-15-2018, 02:42 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (7)

So I 'm a complete beginner. I just went through all the basic tutorials except the assets folder. I tried to go through the Luminosity mask tutorial, but I'm getting stuck at the "Create Even Darker Masks" section. I don't get results similar to what the tutorial has. When I subtract the lights channel (L) from the darks channel (D) I get something that looks less dark. I think I'm missing a few key steps that would probably be obvious to a more experienced user. I could provide my file for comparison if you want.

Thanks all,

-Kirby

Setting-Steps for enlarging and reducing brushes
Posted by: buddyM - 04-12-2018, 08:19 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hello folks,

I use the shortcuts ALT GR-[ and ALT GR-] (WIN) for enlarging and reducing brushes of all kinds.

Unfortunately, the whole thing happens in 1 pixel steps. I would like to change this and increase it to 3 to maybe 5 pixels. Can I put this anywhere?

I searched in vain in the preferences.

Thank you

PS: I use Gimp 2.10 RC1 if this is important for the matter.

  Error when opening JPEG image
Posted by: amber1999 - 04-12-2018, 05:25 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

Hi everyone,

I keep receiving this error when trying to open a particular JPEG image. All other images open fine, just this one doesn't work. Has anyone ever experienced this before and has found a solution? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Amber
