Warning: possibly some prejudice ahead.

• GimpForums.com (GF.c) used to be one of the leading Gimp forums, which, with all due modesty, I'll ascribe to Rich's and I continued efforts (as well as a few others').
  
• However we weren't the owners, and the only person with full admin rights didn't really care about the day-to-day operations.
  
• In September 2016 GF crashed and the owner/admin never showed up to repair it
  
• So, after a month Rich, Kevin, and I joined efforts to create Gimp-Forum.net (G-F.n) to replace it
  
• However, 6 months later, GF.c was restarted, likely to milk its popularity with search engines (a popular site name is worth money (several thousands dollars), using a backup from... 2014.
  
• Given the low level of consideration we received from the GF.c owner ("benevolent idiots" could be an understatement), we decided not post again on GF.c , to stop moderate it, and to put banners all over the place pointing here. In addition I removed all the content I had authored over the years (around 25% of the total)(*).
  
• Due to lack of maintenance/moderation (you can't efficiently fight spam without having full admin rights) GF.c has become a spammer's nest.
  
• At the end of September 2018 (nearly two years after it creation), G-F.n passed GF.c in estimated traffic on Alexa.com.
  

When using the rotate tool, an overlay grid appears. This would be very useful to line up the thing being rotated to get it exactly square, but the grid itself also rotates. 

Why does it do this, and is it possible to stop the grid turning?

I remember using a filter or tool in Gimp, in a previous version. I downloaded the latest version recently, and now I'd like to re use a tool, but I can't find it anymore, I'm going to describe it and hope someone can help me to find it : 

It's a tool or filter that brings up a tiny window of the image, then you can deform your image at will using the mouse, and enter a number of images you want in the end. Then it will create a sort of animation, each layer moving and deforming the image up to the one you deformed yourself in the window.

Sorry it's not very precise, but I used this quite a while ago. I really need to use this right now so I hope someone can help, thanks in advance !

I'm assuming that this is a font weight issue.  I was doing a mockup of a dialog, so I took what we had and then tried to modify it by adding some extra stuff.  This is what I got:

   

Can you tell which text doesn't belong?

This is exactly the same font and font size with antialiasing and yet it looks lighter than the other text.  So I looked up if I could change the weight for a font in gimp but seems that it is not directly available.  The closest that I came up with was:  http://www.gimptalk.com/index.php?/topic...t-in-gimp/

Which I don't understand.  Some retired staff member references:

Hello, new GIMP user here. Best I can tell GIMP 2.10.6 is not seeing or using the arialn.ttf font. Several Arial font options are listed, including Arial Narrow Condensed and Arial Italic Condensed. Strangely, Narrow Condensed is set to bold and I cannot remove it nor can I remove the italics from the Italic Condensed. They are otherwise correct. Using Arial and adjusting character spacing also does not achieve desired result.

Any thoughts or ideas? What am I missing?

Also, can anyone shed light on gimpforums.com vs gimp-forum.net? I saw a post on gimpforums.com saying it was being shut down due to spamming...but it still looks active to me.

I’m trying to make a simple logo in GIMP which I need in different formats (small logo, business card) but I’m running into issues when resizing it. I’m sure this is due to my inexperience and wanted to ask if there are guidelines for doing this?

I started with a 3000 x 2000 pixel file and that worked fine when I scaled it down a lot for the small logo, but when I scaled it to 1040 x 693 (keeping the same aspect ratio) to match the dimensions of the business card the result was fuzzy borders and text that’s not sharp anymore. When Facebook displays a thumbnail and not the full picture, the line under the letters is also a bit ‘wiggly’.

Would someone be so kind to give me a nudge in the right direction?

I'm a real beginner with Gimp/ image-editing.

I have a picture of a mic with white text on one side, plus buttons on another side. I'd like to remove all the white letters, and remove the buttons. I want the mic just to be a plain mic. How can I do this? Removing the white letters is surely easier than removing the buttons. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys , 


I wanna put my ugly self on a simpsons pic and an anime one and i want to change my colours so that it looks like am really in the cartoon. Not draw myself from scratch . Just edit the real pic to have the colours and the filter of a cartoon one.

I messed around with the colours and the filters but i dont have the experience to achieve the outcome i want , so i thought of asking for some help .

I have some questions about linear workspace.

I followed the instructions here and determined that Gimp 2.10 does indeed use linear calculations:

That's great!  I already knew this, sort of, but I have some issues understanding what is going on.

These tests work in both perceptual sRGB and Linear light.  What happens when I change the precision to 'linear light'?  Is it something that becomes embedded in any file I export?  I have also noticed that bit depth makes no difference, so why would I need to change it to higher than 8 bits if I just want correct linear maths?

Why does every guide I read about linear light insist that more than 8 bits are needed if I want to use linear light calculations?  Obviously this is not a strict requirement if Gimp can do linear calculations in perceptual sRGB and 8 bit.

Is there any way to draw smooth lines without adding weight in smooth strokes? The delay it causes between the brush and cursor makes it pretty frustrating to use. And I emphazise the word "draw", I am not asking about afterwards edit.
