  Ellipse stroke selectiom
Posted by: al.da.drone - 09-16-2018, 03:40 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (14)

Admittedly I'm not best at Gimp and my questions are a little stupid. Anyway I have created a circle, I have used the stroke selection to make an outline. I have noticed that the outline is a thicker in parts. I have attached a screenshot maybe I'm seeing things.  Am i doing something wrong?

Also is there a Gimp colour code chart showing the numbers to colours?

Thanks

  Install scripts and plugins
Posted by: rich2005 - 09-16-2018, 11:49 AM - Forum: OSX - No Replies

A recent post made me wonder how difficult it might be adding scripts and plugins to a Mac.

I use linux, just a hobby user but go way back to MS DOS, so not too frightened by typing in commands and using a terminal.

This is using a Mac OSX virtual machine, so I am as much a beginner as anyone who bought their Mac yesterday.

This video demonstrates that it is not too difficult adding those scripts and plugins. Shown with Gimp 2.10 since that is the future, Gimp 2.8 is no different, determine the Gimp profile from the Gimp preferences. I am sure that there will be other/better/more efficient ways, it is just a beginner demo.

Gimp 2.10 has me a little puzzled
Posted by: kmk55 - 09-15-2018, 05:13 AM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (4)

Big Grin Hi, I am not new to Gimp but I only downloaded and installed the latest version2.10 today. I just wanted to ask about a couple of things, one being--How would I go about changing the new black background to a light theme? That dark background with white text hurts my eyes ; I have developing cataracts which only makes matters worse. Also--What does this error message mean? "The procedure entry point pthread_setname_np could not be located in the dynamiclink library C:\Program Files\Gimp 2\32\bin\libglib-2.0-0.dll." I get this every time I start up Gimp. It runs OK otherwise, but the message is annoying. Can I do something to get rid of it? - Thanks

I'm interested in accessing the plugins from the Procedural Database outside of a registered function and am wondering if this is possible and if it isn't, why? Thanks.

Bizarre failure to combine animated GIF with static image
Posted by: HavingTooMuchFun - 09-14-2018, 03:38 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

I tried to use this gif that has a transparent background:

to make an animated spout on a whale photo. It seemed like I should be able to use the whale photo as a background and the gif would run on top of it. When I did this keeping it as "replace," the whale flashed on and off and then the gif played. When I tried "combine," the spout did run over the whale image, BUT, the transparent background had changed into a white background:

I don't know whether to laugh or cry! What happened here? What obvious issue am I missing? Please tell me I don't have to make 42 layers of the whale image and merge them down with the spout layers!!

{bangs head against wall}

Is there a control to check or uncheck all the eyeballs?
Posted by: HavingTooMuchFun - 09-14-2018, 01:16 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

I'm working on a 67-frame animated gif, and... you can see why I'm hoping there's a way to check or uncheck ALL the eyeballs simultaneously! Or any kind of work-around at all? I'm spending more time clicking eyeballs than actually creating!   Sad Sad Sad

  Guides as a template
Posted by: al.da.drone - 09-14-2018, 07:38 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

Just wondering if you can have the centre guides as a template rather than setting up manually everytime I use Gimp. I have set up 12x 12 inch template but the guides never show...
Any suggestions.
Thanks

  Transparency under Gimp2.10.6
Posted by: carmen - 09-13-2018, 09:24 PM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (10)

Hello!
Having just upgraded from 2.8.14 to 2.10.6, I have met a surprise (for me) in working with painting tools on layers with wholly transparent pixels:
* under 2.8, choosing mode 'darken only', 'soft light', etc., the brush worked only over the already 'painted' pixels, skipping those with full tansparency--never painted or previously deleted.
* under 2.10.6, the effect on painted pixels is as expected, BUT tansparent pixels get filled as per mode 'normal'.
QUESTION 1: is this effect configurable? i.e., I cannot pretend to understand most of the new features--maybe I am missing something?
QUESTION 2: if it IS a new, unavoidable feature, HOW DO OTHERS FEEL ABOUT IT? I find it
* counter-intuitive: how do you lighten/darken WHAT ISN'T THERE?
* no end of a bore to lock transparency to change the color of a small spot (without bleeding out of the drawing), and then unlock to edit the boundary with transparency. In fact, it is almost as bad as editing a masked layer--endlessly checking/unchecking 'edit mask'.
On the other hand, some features (so far) are fine: loading time, memory load, BLENDING TOOL...
Any suggestions would appreciated. Thanks!

  Re: Beautify Plugin
Posted by: catz - 09-13-2018, 05:11 AM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (3)

I downloaded the newest version of Gimp for Windows 10 and I can't figure out how to get this awesome plugin called Beautify installed in the new version of GIMP 2.10.6. I love this plugin and would like to use it on the new version. If someone could please help step by step with any screenshots provided I would appreciate it very much.
