Derive duotone "colours" from an existing photo
Posted by: jrickards - 03-07-2018, 07:32 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

I like the way this photo (https://www.flickr.com/photos/152818709@...d-public/) looks and would like to apply a similar style to other photos.

I realize that the photo has vignetting and softening but what I'm not clear on is how to take a black and white photo and map the range of grays to the same tones in this photo. This photo was converted to this style using an in-camera style which is why I don't really know how it was done in-camera.

Is it possible and if so, how might it be done?

Thanks,

Jules

Method of getting myself to look like a drawing?

Is there a way to get a portrait of myself to look like a drawing?

Like a simple cartoon drawing, think Hanna Barbara simplicity.

  NSInvalidArgumentException during app launch (extension-script-fu?)
Posted by: Pete - 03-05-2018, 07:05 PM - Forum: OSX - No Replies

Freshly installed GIMP 2.8.22 on OSX 10.12.6 never starts, and throws the following (when reaching initialization of extension-script-fu):

*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[__NSCFArray length]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x11033f370'
*** First throw call stack:

I worked for a long time without issues with GIMP version 2.8, then suddenly after a Mac restart it started throwing the above when launching the app. I reinstalled 2.8.22, but it didn't fix the issue.

Hm, another Mac restart solved the issue it seems. Probably still worth investigating and fixing though.

How do I make a cross with rounded corners?

How do I use Gimp to make a cross image (a large plus sign), with the corners rounded, not just the 8 outermost corners, but the 4 inner corners as well?

How to install GIMP for portable usage?
Posted by: ajax - 03-04-2018, 01:39 AM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (11)

For Windows computers GIMP is available as a Portable APP but only for a stable version.  Insofar as this is my preferred method of installation/usage I'd like to make my own portable installation on an external disk drive for a newer/development version.

I've been able to run the installer and choose a target location on the external drive.  This has the affect of locating the program files where I want them.  Unfortunately, when GIMP executes it creates a bunch of folders for persistent data on the path "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.9" which is most undesirable.

Insofar as the Portable Apps folks are able to change this I thought I should also be able to do that as well.  The question is how?

How to merge parts of an image aligned to their edges?
Posted by: felixcra - 03-03-2018, 09:03 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

Consider the following image as an example:

What is the best way to merge the upper and the lower part together?

Edit: It might be better visible what I need if you have a look at the imgur image instead of the embedded image here, as there you can clearly see the borders of the parts I want to merge.

  alpha to selection and text
Posted by: alin33 - 03-03-2018, 08:50 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

I'm applying alpha to selection to text and fill the text with a gradient.I have noticed that after applying alpha to select the text loses his text attributes -usually I'm doing text to path cause I need the text layer to be regular layer-but after alpha to selection I don't have the text layer to path option-I need the final result -regular layer-Does the alpha to selection made it regular layer and not text permanently?
