  Resizing images
Posted by: Spyk - 04-15-2018, 05:58 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

I don't know how awkward of a question this is but here we go. So I am making art for a program called Hyperspin. The program naturally runs at a 4:3 ratio. I would like to upscale my art for it to HD standards. Unfortunately it is not as simple as clicking an option in the program. If you hit full screen it just stretches images to match the new ratio and everything looks stretched out. I would like to resize everything for 1080p and 4k as well but haven't the slightest of how to go about this to ensure that it displays correctly, compensating for the stretch the program is going to do and to make sure my image quality isn't trashed by the resizing. So far all other information I have been able to find info on the web for. This one I can't seem to find a damned thing for without being referred to flash. I wouldn't mind doing so but I would rather not pay a monthly subscription for a program (one time fee and I would be fine). Anyone have any information that could help me out here?

Trouble following the luminosity mask tutorial.
Posted by: kirbywan - 04-15-2018, 02:42 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (7)

So I 'm a complete beginner. I just went through all the basic tutorials except the assets folder. I tried to go through the Luminosity mask tutorial, but I'm getting stuck at the "Create Even Darker Masks" section. I don't get results similar to what the tutorial has. When I subtract the lights channel (L) from the darks channel (D) I get something that looks less dark. I think I'm missing a few key steps that would probably be obvious to a more experienced user. I could provide my file for comparison if you want.

Thanks all,

-Kirby

Setting-Steps for enlarging and reducing brushes
Posted by: buddyM - 04-12-2018, 08:19 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hello folks,

I use the shortcuts ALT GR-[ and ALT GR-] (WIN) for enlarging and reducing brushes of all kinds.

Unfortunately, the whole thing happens in 1 pixel steps. I would like to change this and increase it to 3 to maybe 5 pixels. Can I put this anywhere?

I searched in vain in the preferences.

Thank you

PS: I use Gimp 2.10 RC1 if this is important for the matter.

  Error when opening JPEG image
Posted by: amber1999 - 04-12-2018, 05:25 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

Hi everyone,

I keep receiving this error when trying to open a particular JPEG image. All other images open fine, just this one doesn't work. Has anyone ever experienced this before and has found a solution? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Amber

  Opening a 300dpi JPG changes to 72ppi?
Posted by: Ilpoxi - 04-11-2018, 01:32 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

I make 300dpi JPG-s from CorelDraw. After export from CorelDraw I check the resolution once again in the Win Resource Management from file's properties and it's 300dpi. When I open this JPG in GIMP and check the Properties from Picture> (or Image>) Properties, the resolution is 72x72PPI. Why? I have done this 10 times to check it.

I have configured in GIMP program properties that a new document will be 300x300DPI. But this doesn't help.

If I open a photograph taken with 300dpi cellphone camera in Gimp, the resolution seems to remain 300DPI.

So, somehow my 300 DPI CorelDRaw Graphics are changed to 72PPI. Frustrating!

  Atmospheric haze: Add and remove
Posted by: Marscaleb - 04-10-2018, 06:16 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

I'm working on a project where I am blending a couple different photos of some landscape into a single image.

The problem I've having with this is properly color-matching many of these elements, particularly with regards of atmospheric haze.  Some of these mountains and hills were taken from different distances, and as a result some have more atmospheric haze than others, given them more or less of a blue tint.
To get my image to look right, I need to match these properly between each other.  Some of these I need to add that blue haze, and for some of them I'd like to remove it.

I thought adding the haze would be easy; I thought I'd be able to just add a new layer of just blue and just adjust the opacity.  But that didn't come out right; it didn't look like atmospheric haze, it looked like I just painted it blue.  Maybe I'm just a little off and need to use the right shade of blue, or maybe there is something else I'm missing.  Either way, I would appreciate some pointers.

I'm also curious if it is possible to remove atmospheric haze.  I tried adjusting the color balance to pull some of the blue out of a picture, but then it just looked like I was painting it yellow.  I have other pictures of the exact same kind of mountains, so I have samples of exactly what shades of green and brown and such that the various parts need to be.  Is there any way I can just automatically match the colors?  In fact, that would be really useful because they I can blend it other pictures where the plant-life is a totally different shade of green, or the rocks are a different color, etc.

So does anyone have any thoughts on how I can properly match the colors between these different photographs?

  On the wrong path.
Posted by: BlueHobbit - 04-09-2018, 10:27 PM - Forum: Watercooler - Replies (3)

Ive been playing with the path tool over the last few days, and was feeling fairly confident in its use. Abstract curvey shape creation..check! Then I hit a wall of frustation when I tried to manipulate the shapes. Flipping them just kept cutting parts of the image out.

I was going to post a general distress message and whilst running through the process I was using...

It just clicked that the option I need appears in the Tool Options itself. Select the paths.. and were off! Thats what I wanted it to do 4 hours ago! Flip, rotate, reshape.

Elation! More things to play with!

Feeling smug. And it only took 4 hours of puzzled muttering.

Imported brushes, not all working [SOLVED]
Posted by: novaseens - 04-09-2018, 02:49 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (2)

Hi all, so I recently got into GIMP 2 and went for brushes and saw the Cartography Brushes Pack for a RP map link below.
https://eragon2589.deviantart.com/art/Ca...n2589&qo=0

After placing them in the "Users\Accname\.gimp-2.8\brushes" I loaded up GIMP to use but instead of them being mountain each dot that drew the mountain was increated in size like this https://i.imgur.com/ucE67Py.png instead of amountain out the the pack. I reinstalled the pack but the same thing happened. This goes for a few other brushes I got aswell not all.

Please help

Nevermind I was using pencil instead of Paint "Brush" ..... well, now I know....
