Hi there! having trouble finding the answer as to how to remove the dotted lines from a previous text placement after i move said text.  It remains visable no matter what i've tried. And when i try to add filters to the current text, such as emboss, it only applies the filter to the ghost dotted text.  Any help would be much appreciated.  (brand new to Gimp)

hello,

runing along fine learning gimp when i must have pressed some buttons by accident.   my display and how i use the software changed and now i am kinda lost doing things that were normal to me.  some examples are i no longer see the open image icons/thumbnails along the top pf the main window.  when i open ip 1 layer out of many it tranfers me to window with just that layer and i can no longer see the other layers.  The part of the display which shows the forground and background colors and active gradient are missing.   have tried playiong with windoes>single window mode.    wondering what i may have pressed and how to correct?    (windows zp and GIMP 2.8.22)

I've recently had to rebuild my system but previously was able to upload exported GIMP PDFs to Redbubble with transparent layers with no problems however  now it won't accept them.

It's not the export feature because thw website accepts JPGs & so it must be something to do with the way it exports PDFs. I don't think the issue is with Redbubble because it accepted PDFs from my other art package AND PDFs with a transparent layer from my previous version of GIMP (don't know what that version was!)

Can anybody help - I might be missing something but I don't think so.

BTW the previous GIMP version was installed in November last year (I think) and just had floating windows rather than the desktop style it is with 2.10.6.

I'm experimenting with creating pixel art at some various levels of technical quality; creating pixel art constrained to various different systems.

Now for any system or palette that doesn't exceed 256 colors, I can easily convert an image to index mode.
For a 15-bit color palette, I can save an image as a 15-bit .bmp file (or rather, 16-bit with one bit for alpha.)

But what about anything in-between?  Like a 9-bit RGB, or a 12-bit RGB?  Or maybe some other less-popular color combination?  (But 9-bit and 12-bit RGB are the ones I am interested in at this time.)

How can I convert an image to these palettes?  Does someone have a script I can run to make the conversion?

Does anyone know how I can achieve this effect in Gimp?

I already have some 'splash' colour backgrounds I can use, but I don't know how to do it in gimp.

I need to clean photos of documents batch-wise. I like the exposure plugin for this but it's not supported in Bimp. Is there a way to add it to it? To script it? Or could you recommend me another batch plugin for this purpose?

I've tried levelss and Sharp but both gave mediocre results.

gimp-2.10.6-setup.exe fails on Windows 7 (64bit).

Oddly, when I try to run the installer it offers NO opportunity to select an installation drive and then says it cannot find a drive it wants to use.  Dialogue message displayed as follows:

   

However, I can find NO way to select another drive, which creates the proverbial deadly embrace.

I normally install GIMP to removable drives which allows me to run it in portable fashion where I continue to have older versions available for fallback purposes.

What's going on here?  Very strange!

- Since upgrading, I find that every time I switch to one brush from another (i.e., default brush, circle, hardness 100, to same, hardness 25, or brush 'smoke') the new brush appears at its 'natural' size: 51px for the first two, and around 250 for the last. While in 2.8, the new brush opened at the same size that the one last in use...
- Contrairiwise, if I exit Gimp with default brush at 4px, on reopening, that particular brush is still 4px, while in 2.8 default brush opened alwys at 20px--one had to press the button 'reload default size' to put it at 51.
I suspect that I have missed some configuration option--particularly, there should be a way to switch between different hardnesses of the defualt brush without having the size changed as well.
Please, what am I missing?

I am posting a first example of:
- kind of material I may start with (choosen because it was likely my very first project with Gimp, started in 2011)
   
- kind of result I am aiming at: last version, fairly recent--can be improved if/when I feel like it and have learned some more, found a font I like better...
   
Trouble: remove ALL the background from the illustration (it can be seen that it must be removed also from holes in the picture) avondind raggedness in the borders, and querly coloured semitransparent pixels, wich play havoc when  giving a new, uniform colour to the picture.
Advice certainly appreciated.

Admittedly I'm not best at Gimp and my questions are a little stupid. Anyway I have created a circle, I have used the stroke selection to make an outline. I have noticed that the outline is a thicker in parts. I have attached a screenshot maybe I'm seeing things.  Am i doing something wrong?

Also is there a Gimp colour code chart showing the numbers to colours?
