How to 'gradient out' to white?
Posted by: enginestar - 04-22-2018, 01:06 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Let's say I have an image.
I roughly cut out leaving a border of 20-30 pixels say.

How can I have the border of the image stretch out to the edges of the picture and blend into white?

See the image below. I intentionally kept the picture dark to illustrate what I want.

I've never seen it done anywhere - but I can't see why it wouldn't be possible?

Thanks.

How to stretch the edge of a picture.
Posted by: enginestar - 04-21-2018, 01:08 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

Say I crop a picture.
On the left I have an edge that is 5 pixels - after my object.
I want to have a border around my object be 20 pixels say.

How can I stretch the edge and make it 20 pixels?
I used to do this in Photoshop.

As an example see the image below
[Image: HUstPk.jpg]

Say I want to stretch the left hand side.
Ignore the shadows! This is just an image I took off the internet to help ask my question!

Thanks.

How can I resize one layer to fit another?
Posted by: dblj - 04-21-2018, 12:07 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

I am trying to do this project where I take a photo of my face every day, and I want to stabilize my photos using GIMP. In my first picture, my face is more zoomed out than in the photo I want to edit, so I want to shrink the photo I am editing to fit that. How can I change the size of a layer?

How to increase distance betwen gridlines when using perspective tool
Posted by: Yash Pal - 04-20-2018, 09:49 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

OS: Ubuntu 16.04

GIMP: 2.8.22

When i want to use the perspective tool (in fact, any other tool too - like the rotate tool), with a small image, I find that the grid lines are so close that I cannot make out whether i have moved the corners/ rotated the image sufficiently.

Is there any way to reduce the number of grid lines or increase the distance between them in such a case?

  filter math
Posted by: buffalo - 04-19-2018, 03:48 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

How do I obtain the algo/kernel/convolution mask for the various filters in gimp?

For instance, I was interested in the numbers behind  https://docs.gimp.org/en/plug-in-oilify.html

so I could customize them per my needs, and create new filters per my needs.

Cleaning up microfilm, microfiche and aperture cards
Posted by: kirbywan - 04-19-2018, 02:17 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Howdy all,

I'm going to start fiddling with the best way to scan in and clean up aperture cards to make them as readable as possible. Has anyone solved this problem before? I expect the process would be similar for microfilm and microfiche if anyone has worked with those.

As I sort out best practices I will share my findings here.

Thanks,

-Kirby

GIMP keyboard shortcuts (ps shortcuts) sometimes work sometimes not!
Posted by: QUARLEAP - 04-19-2018, 01:21 PM - Forum: Installation and usage - Replies (2)

GIMP keyboard shortcuts (ps-menurc shortcuts) sometimes work sometimes not! note "i am using
theme called "dark"" and i added the "ps-menurc" to it and replaced similar file with it " and tried to add it in gimp folders like themes , plugins etc  and /user folder in c . as  a random solution! but not fixed the problem! and may work fine if i re copy the file every time before i use gimp to the theme folder !
-
even if i reset the gimp tool preferences , gimp shortcuts not always work also !

  Heal & Clone Tool
Posted by: 4martinbrown - 04-19-2018, 08:14 AM - Forum: OSX - Replies (2)

I am running on High Sierra 10.13.4 on a 27' Mac, when trying to use the heal tool or

the clone tool right clicking on the mouse & holding Ctrl only brings up a dialogue list,

I was under the impression from the tutorials that I have viewed that this action should

activate another circle dependant on the brush size then transfer the sample from the original

circle. What am I doing wrong please
