Hello All!

I'm a gimp newbie and hoping someone can help me...I've attached a photo so you can see what I'm trying to do...I've added a border (gimp grow) around the logo, but it is getting cut off by the yellow dotted line, I can't seem to increase the size of this yellow dotted line box.  Anybody have any suggestions?  It would be greatly appreciated! 

I have had a minor problem with drawing tablets for some time - it is not a showstopper.

When I open GIMP the pen is greyed out in Configure input devices. If I then open Libreoffice Draw and do a scribble, close Draw without saving, the pen works correctly. It is no longer greyed out in input devices. It is as though GIMP is failing to load something which Draw then loads.

This has occurred in Ubuntu 20.04 and 18.04, in GIMP 28 as well as previous versions.

For me this is only a minor irritation but a solution may help others.

using bentley microstation which often has .tiff attachments (These are engineering drawings that were hand drawn and scanned into the system over the years as industry went more CAD based). We generally use GIMP to erase elements from the drawing, use {file -> overwrite fileName.tiff} then open the file in microstation and draw in the CAD elements. The tiff and DGN files are located in the same file location, microstation opens fine until I use GIMP and overwrite the tiff. when I try to open the CAD file the program produces an error and closes. I can change the .tiff file name in which case the .DGN no longer references the file (normally attached as a Raster?) and the CAD will open without the .tiff. 

A get around I can use (though it messes up the presentation) is to open the .tiff in paint, hit save, and close it. then it's normal operating procedure. What's happening here? is GIMP changing the .tiff format? everyone else in my department has zero trouble with this so I know how it SHOULD work, but it just doesn't. tackled the issue with IT and microstation support and it appears to be a GIMP issue.

I wonder if there is an option for paths in gimp that act as the scale a layer option (right click in the layer dock / Scale Layer). The option as here described set the scaled layer in the center of an existing layer, the scale option in the gimp menu (Tools / Transform Tools / Scale) set the scaled layer (path or image) on the left side of an existing layer. I can scale vertical path layers to the left side and then shift them to the right position, but for the project I'm working on it should be easier to scale paths to the center of an exiting layer.

Hi, I have been running GIMP 2.10.24 for some time and have been gradually trying to improve my knowledge of the program. However, an issue I had from the start was that the help did not work. Yesterday I had a go at resolving this by following the instructions on this page https://www.gimp.org/downloads/ downloading the flatpak program and running it. It did not update things as I had hoped. Instead, as a result, I now have two versions of GIMP, one of which, as above, still has the help not working and also the latest version whose help does work!
Obviously this is not ideal. I do not want to simply remove the older version because it has several settings and brushes etc which I do not want to lose. Similarly, neither do I want to remove the new version, not just because the help works but also for fear that I might also damage the older installation and lose that too!

However, since this morning I considered removing the older version just to see what would happen. I am using Ubuntu 21.04 and unfortunately, although both versions show up as separate icons when I click 'Show Applications', when I look at the 'Ubuntu Software' there is only one icon in there and hence I don't know what will happen if I click 'Uninstall'. I suspect I will lose the snap (older) version, which is what I would wish, but (presumably) I will then have no means of staring the newer (flatpak) version?

So, to summarise, there are two icons in the Application list but only ONE icon for the application removal - which seems to relate to the 2.10.28 version which I want to keep.
If I can just remove 2.10.24 without removing 2.10.28 I will be happy :-)


Please advise - in simple terms - I'm new to this (linux) thing.

I would like to know if we can write something in python using the "Filters/Map/Recursive transform..." tool, if so what would it be like?

Hi, I have this image where the background is a white coloured layer I added after fetching the outline from the coin. I am trying to make this impression pure black. But couldn't make it so by using Invert or levels or Curve. It would be nice to have some help with this one. Thanks.

   

Hi everyone

I need to normalize the brightness across pictures/match the luminance across pictures, but I'm really struggling with this.

I managed to download the contrast-normalize zipmap from here and managed to put in the plugins folder of Gimp (via pc --> %appdata%). However, Gimp is still not showing me the Normalize option under Colors -> Auto...

Does somebody know how I can fix this or is there any kind of different solution? I don't even know if it is possible to do such a thing in Gimp across images? One thing that I've also tried is to put the different images on top of each other as different layers of the same image, but I don't know how I would then normalize the brightness across all layers (if this would work, then I could do this and then copy-paste the layers back as different pictures).

Any suggestions are welcome!
