How to make my layers window longer?
Posted by: shorte85 - 02-15-2022, 11:45 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

Can someone please help me fix this? I have tried to drag up the divider line between the layers and brushes dock windows to see more of my layers. But it won't work, I'm not sure how I even changed it to make it look like it is now. But if anyone could help me fix it before I lose my mind, that would be great.  :Dodgy Where you see the red square, that's where I tried to drag up from to make my layers panel longer (to view more layers than just 1-2)..

  Grid issues...
Posted by: swiss2008 - 02-15-2022, 05:30 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (19)

Hello guys,

I'm trying to get the hang of grids but really struggling, does anyone have a step by step guide?

I need to print off some tiles, on a piece of paper 60in by 40in, 152.400cm by 101.600cm.

I keep trying to put a grid on it with the cells 32.5cm by 21.5cm but they keep on coming out wrong and I don't know why, can someone talk me through it?

Thank you so much in advance...  Blush

  Swappable iPhone/Screen Mockups in Gimp?
Posted by: oguruma - 02-15-2022, 05:29 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

I've used a few Photoshop templates in the past to create iPhone/Computer screen mockups.

They typically work by replacing a layer that houses the content, which will then show on the screen of the iPhone.

I've tried opening one in Gimp and it doesn't work the same way (nor did I really expect it to).

Assuming I had a png of an iPhone (or computer or whatever) in which the screen was transparent, how do I make a layer that will show up in the phone, which can be easily replaced from project to project.

Thanks for your help.

  How To Do Path Thing?
Posted by: abrogard - 02-15-2022, 08:28 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

creating a path which is actually following a long convoluted trail through an image of a large stretch of bushland.

Instructions don't mention how to stop doing it.  Just pick another tool?

They don't mention how to keep it - just happens automatically when I save the image?

Doesn't make clear to me if I must convert to a selection. ?

Not sure if I have to 'stroke' it ?

Can I come back to it and edit it next time - continue it as one path or does it get 'frozen' once 'stroked' etc ?

p.s.
And if I can step back to a most primitive basic question:

I always immediately make a copy layer in the belief that this way I'm ensuring I'll no way damage my original image.
Is this a bit daft?  Would I get just as much protection if I immediately simply save the image with a new name?

But anyway, having done it, created a copy layer to work on I'm always thinking I should then delete that original layer and then I'm safe, all connection with my original now broken.  Is that equally daft?

p.p.s. I suppose there's no way to get back a path that disappeared?

I couldn't find how to end the making of a path no matter where I looked. In the finish I read something that suggested double clicking on the last node would do it. So I did that. All seemed peaceful. So then I selected the move tool.
The path immediately disappeared and wouldn't come back.

That was a good half hour's work. How to use the path tool? Including 'stop using' the path tool?

Photo Drawing wavy border lines?
Posted by: oguruma - 02-15-2022, 01:54 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

I want to draw a wavy border "rolling-hill" background. Specifically this is for flyers/business cards.

I think I see how I could do that by just drawing a line, and connecting the nodes, but is there any way I can do that by starting with a rectangle and skewing the top line of the rectangle?
