  print.exe crashed
Posted by: Punchcard - 08-02-2021, 01:22 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (3)

Windows 7 Home Premium X64
GIMP 2.10.24 (Revision 3)

After I changed print size, and clicked on File/Print..., print.exe crashed.
I had directed printing to PDFXchange Lite, to produce a PDF file.

Any thoughts on what I can look for?

Gimp reported:
  Plug-in crashed: "print.exe"
  (C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\print\print.exe)

There is a message box:

  Printing Progress
  Spooling
  [A52070_XBD] (imported)

I cannot make the message box close.  (I don't know which executable made it.)

A52070_XBD.tif size on disk is 1.55 GB

In Print Size, I set Print Size to 6.00 x 6.189 inches, which made
X, Y resolution 3872.5, 3872.5 pixels/in.

From Image Properties:

Size in pixels: 23235 x 23968 pixels
File Size: 1.7 GB
Size in memory: 5.2 GB
Number of Pixels: 556896480

  Float Selection Feathering/Transparency
Posted by: nodex - 08-01-2021, 06:19 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hello guys,

I can't remember when I first encountered this, but I think it was when 2.10 released. Why does the Select>Float function feather the edges of the selection? The previous versions were hard splits, now once you float, there is transparency between the old and new layers.

Is there a way to turn this off?

Is floating a selection not the best way?

  Gimp 2.10 Text Justification.
Posted by: rich2005 - 08-01-2021, 04:16 PM - Forum: Tutorials and tips - No Replies

The GIMP acronym should be changed to Gimp Is no Text Editor

The text tool justification options are there in the Tool Options.

  Why no text justify?
Posted by: OurJud - 08-01-2021, 12:56 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

Hi. Using the latest version. Can anyone explain why the devs haven’t implemented text justification yet? I see the option is there in the alignment choices, but it doesn’t function. I found a short article (not sure how old) that explained the option had been added as a placeholder, but never implemented. What’s the problem??

  Poorly rendered text
Posted by: OurJud - 08-01-2021, 10:27 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

First some context. I’ve been designing fictitious cigarette packs as props, to use alongside a series of vintage Zippo photos I’m doing. I design them as flat templates then print them off before building them as physical packs.

However, because much of the text I use needs to be fairly small (especially for the sides of the packs) I find the quality is pretty terrible by the time I’m ready to print. I think my display could be emphasising the poor quality (it’s a 50” TV I use for gaming) but even so the quality of the text when printed is still very poor.

Is there anything I can do to render the text at a higher resolution and quality?

Help needed to add a black outline on text
Posted by: eru777 - 08-01-2021, 08:58 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (7)

Hello everyone. I'm having some trouble adding a black outline to text on gimp. I followed the usual tutorials using grow but it doesn't work.
Am I supposed to do the grow process on a transparent background, save it as a PNG and then paste it on the picture for it to properly work?
This is what I got when the grow method was done
[Image: pFJQlej.jpg]

As you can see at the second panel, the outline only applies to the first word. No idea why, thought some of you might be able to help me out.
This is the tutorial I followed https://itsfoss.com/gimp-text-outline/
This method is what comes up in many tutorials online

Make a selection from a path
Posted by: Ultimate Top Trumps - 07-31-2021, 11:10 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

I am currently using Photoshop with a monthly subscription and love it! The monthly cost of £20, I don't love so much.

I mainly use PS to to edit cards and add them to my website - removed - rich

The process I was using with PS was to scan the cards, open them in PS, straighten the card I want to do first then crop it so I have just that image/card. Next I would use the Pen Tool to round the corners and add the finished image to a larger image.

My question is simple. How do I create a selection from the path for the rounded corners and then delete this, leaving a nicely rounded corner?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

  Reducing colors
Posted by: yahtzeefish - 07-30-2021, 11:36 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Hello,

Is there a good way to reduce the number of colors of my image to only have 4 colors? I was using indexed mode under Image but I was wondering if there was a cleaner way to do it...

Area selected with Fuzzy Selection not shown
Posted by: islegmar - 07-30-2021, 05:13 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

Hi

I am using Mac with Big Sur and Gimp 2.10.

If I use Fuzzy Selection with the Draw Mask option it works fine: the are selected is indicated with a pink color. The weird think is that when KI release the mouse there is no indication in the image about the selected area, the image looks like before the selection.

But the selection is there because if I do Edit > Clear the selected area is gone.

I have been searching through the different preferences without no success and my installation is pretty new out of the box.

Thanks a lot!!

  Text problem new line
Posted by: PaulCKruger - 07-30-2021, 03:24 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (3)

For some reason when I enter more than one line of text, pressing to add second line places that above the first instead of below as is should.

Any idea if this is a setting somewhere or a bug?

=== example ===

FIRST WORD (enter for new line ) SECOND WORD

This is what I get:

SECOND WORD
FIRST WORD

Should be:

FIRST WORD
SECOND WORD
