  Copywrite infringement?
Posted by: EternalSlushy - 06-23-2020, 10:51 AM - Forum: Watercooler - Replies (4)

I'm looking at some of these photos online that people submit to freeware sites for public use and what not. There are tons of great stuff to play around with as well as some amazing photos I personally would never give out for free.

Even though they posted/uploaded it to these websites for public use, is it still illegal to use them in your work? If you buy them do you own the photo or just get a copy of it?

Also, if anyone knows any good websites to find cool background or photos that are totally 100% free please let me know!

  Linux Flatpak additions (official)
Posted by: rich2005 - 06-23-2020, 10:17 AM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (4)

Some joy for linux flatpak users. (and some whinges from me)

Update your flatpak

Code:
flatpak update org.gimp.GIMP

Whinge no.1  - You get the Gimp manual. It is a big installation. Do I want it - no. I use either online or the pdf.

A list of the addons
Code:
flatpak install org.gimp

Very straight forward, select the one you want, (only one-at-a-time, you need to repeat the procedure for more) and it installs.

Whinge no.2 Resynthesizer for example, I remember installing that in an earlier flatpak with no problems at all, but it is welcome.
Whinge no.3 Again Resynthesizer, At best I use only two of the python plugins, heal-selection and occasionally heal-transparency. With this install you get the lot, 8 of them to clutter up the menu.
Whinge no.4 I want to remove the unwanted python plugins, go to Edit -> Preferences -> plug-ins. Where are they ?  It says  /app/.... Where ? I did find them eventually.
 /var/lib/flatpak/runtime/org.gimp.GIMP.Plugin.Resynthesizer/x86_64/2-3.36/ece209307f93889a3b75c31a809bd87b318ea42f014473f21b0a4604643c0b69/files/plug-ins/

However, for all,of that,  the gmic plugin is there and for many linux Gimp 2.10.x users that is welcome.

  combine two pictures
Posted by: PeaceLuth - 06-22-2020, 07:47 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

Here's the situation. I have two pictures that have three people in each. I want to combine the two pictures so I end up with a single picture with four people in it. I tried erasing all unwanted feature in one picture thinking I could move it to the other picture, the layers overlap.
Suggestions. See attached (I hope) sample.

Hi everyone.

I proposed a new feature for Visual Studio Code and I need 20 upvotes to get it implemented.

If you feel inclined to help, please give it an upvote. Here's the link:

Thanks in advance.

  Add Nodes to Path
Posted by: carmen - 06-20-2020, 12:42 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (8)

I wanted to add 'sea currents' to a map, as in the figure:

It could be done in Inkscape through 'markers', but I wanted it as a purely 'stroke path'--better for small, indexed images.
As can be seen, I succeeded trough the following steps:
- oriented paths made in Gimp
- export them to svg, and open in Inkscape
- Inkscape Extensions -> Modify Paths -> Add Nodes... -> By max. segment length = 30.0px
- import the modified paths into Gimp, and:

  • * ofn-path-edits -> Disjoin strokes
  • * ofn-path-to-shape -> Functions on segments -> Modify segments -> Start=0, End=50
  • * manually edit 2 of the segments in the resulting paths (it should be evident which ones would need adjusting)
  • * path-arrow-heads at ends...
In view of the results, I think that the 'Add Nodes to Path' would be a likely addition to the Gimp path toolbox ( Wink do you hear, Ofnuts?). Besides the use above and its variants, it also can improve the result of ofn-bend-path for squarish fonts with few control points--enabling still more "Bendiness" (I have a 'borderline' example somewhere).

  Add ons for gimp
Posted by: CWilke - 06-19-2020, 08:05 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (2)

I have gimp 2.10 on my google pixel book (Chromebook). I would like to add additional brushes, some presets and maybe filters and overlays.

I have been able to download brushes, but cannot figure out how to get the brushes from downloads into gimp.

Any guidance would be apppreciated.

  Guide to Ofnuts Paths
Posted by: carmen - 06-19-2020, 05:41 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (5)

I have just updated the epub "Guide to Ofnuts Paths" at the same download link.
Any comments are welcome.
Caveat: I fully intend to maintain the guide and add others on non-path topics (if only for my personal use). Unfortunately, my working fits come as (bipolar) batches, so I can easily get behindhand with the update... or do it and not put an announcement in the forum.

Appreciating Real World Use of Ofnut's Path plugins

I thought I would share a picture of a sign I painted for a local cafe using Ofnut's Bend plugin.

The actual sign.
