I thought id be nice enough to introduce myself here, as I'm hoping to become a permanent resident on this forum.
My name is Dot, I'm from the Netherlands, from Groningen to be precise,!
like most women my age, I will refrain to enlighten you about mine for now 
have a wild guess id say    
 I first got to know of GIMP via SecondLife (yes it's still a thing)   lol 
Where I use gimp to make textures for products I create. 
I'm a creative bit of a weirdo 

at this moment I'm busy creating a personal website, I have had many sites over the years, but this is my 1st time actually paying for a propper domain and actually devoting my time to this! the site is about women with autism, and mostly about me, as everyone is different of course.
sofar I'm loving it! though here and there I'm running into small hurdles xD  
and I'm sure I could benefit greatly being a member here, 
love the look of this forum, not too huge to not find bank whats going on

Hello everyone

I have a bit of a complicated question 
Im creating a website and on it i want to have a GIF that explains some things
As im creating it im noticing that im using a lot of imgs ..
before I continue .. id like to know if there is a limit to howlong a GIF can be 
Can a GIF be too big/long that it simply will stop working ? 

(if its okay id like to keep this thread open, as I might have more questions as time goes on
im autistic and i easily get lost in on a forum.)

I am new and just downloaded Gimp.  When I greyscale a photo then Filters, Distort, Newsprint I do not get the options to come up.  It simply converts to the newsprint so I'm not able to set resolution, etc.  I can't seem to find how to turn the options feature on.  Hope someone can help me.  Thanks much.

Hi everyone! Does anybody else have ths problem or it's just me. I'm trying to enter Gimpchat and all I get is a waiting loop and finally a page that said: "This site cannot be reach".

I tried to paste a transparent image on the opened brick background in GIMP and it failed. Below is what I did.


1. I 'googled' transparent flowers and got this (png):




2. I right-clicked on the flower and chose 'Copy Image'



3. I opened a brick wall background in GIMP and attempted to paste the what I thought was a transparent flower and it did this:



I'm not sure what I did wrong.

I am unable to use addonCollectionManager with the configuration file in the attached zip, under:
- GIMP 2.10.22 installed from scratch
- Windows 10 installed from scratch, too.
I have tried, with different results:
1. Both addonCollectionManager-3.0.py and addonCollectionManager.ini in personal plug-ins folder, in other disk--same parent folder as my {type} and {type}_storage folders. 
Result: dialogues created as expected in Gimp, but Scrollbox is empty. 
Report in addonCollectionManager(1).log (attached zip).
2. Both addonCollectionManager-3.0.py and addonCollectionManager.ini in C:\Users\{user's_id}\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins. Result nil in Gimp, report in addonCollectionManager(2).log (attached zip).
The trouble appears to be a path mixup, as reflected in the logs...

New to here, and am having some problems with exporting dds
I followed this guide: https://www.gimp-forum.net/attachment.php?aid=2871

The problem I am having is that, depending on the compression mode I choose, there will be a color hue over the thumbnail, and unfortunately this also translate into what I use the dds for. 

Load the file into GIMP and the hue is gone as GIMP reads the file correctly it seems. 
So far the best mode that works is DXT5 (nm gives inverted red) 

so far the problems are:
nm=inverted with red
AlExp=normal color but with what sees like too high brightness
YCoCg= blue hue
YCoCg scaled= green hue

When you're converting a PNG with a transparent background to JPG, the transparent portions become white by default. How can I change it to black?
