  2.10.12 slow
Posted by: sl60 - 11-04-2019, 12:09 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

I just changed from 2.8 to 2.10.12. I'm making montages from various photos and when I open them in layers they are quite jerky to move around and position and th zoom in and out is jerky as well. I never had this problem in 2.8, even with very large templates.

Any idea what the problem is?

removing fold shadow / highlight from a scan
Posted by: tommik128 - 11-03-2019, 01:56 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (12)

Hi guys. I am new to GIMP. Today I was trying to balance the background of a scanned audio CD cover that had slightly different color tones (highlighted) on a folded side of a scan. Pretty much something like this issue presented on this scanned page:

http://i.imgur.com/aIU3zCH.jpg

What I used was the Select by color tool and then filled the area with Bucket fill tool with just one of the colours from the rest of the background using Color picker tool to sort of balance the overall background to get rid of that fold.

But I am wondering if you could actually fill the area with a portion of an image itself (something like cloning / healing). I can't see this option in Bucket fill tool. The reason is that I think it might look better being filled with actual scanned pattern rather than one strick colour all over.

Or is there a better way to get rid of fold shadows / highlights?

Thank you very much for your answers.

Rendering water in a pool in a few easy steps
Posted by: Ofnuts - 11-02-2019, 05:45 PM - Forum: Tutorials and tips - Replies (3)

1) Filters>Render>Noise>Solid noise and increase the Y size to stretch the shapes horizontally

2) With the Curves tool, apply a curve made of 4 to 6 sines

3) Color>Map>Gradient map and map with a Dark blue to light blue gradient

Is there a way to undo a curved path and make it straight again?
Posted by: marigolden - 11-01-2019, 10:40 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

Between nodes I'd accidentally make the line slightly curved. When I try to shape it to be as straight as possible those annoying 2 extra squares show up at either side. Is there any way to undo it entirely to make it a normal line (while not having to redo the entire path of course)

Photo mould on wedding photo
Posted by: Tawe19 - 10-31-2019, 12:06 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (14)

hello

I've scanned in an old family wedding photograph.

Unfortunately the image seems to have gotten damaged by mould, which make it look as though the participants were wearing mouldy clothes !

I can get around the smaller smudges by using the clone tool.

can anyone advise a better approach, especially for the larger sections ?

I am using Gimp 2.10.12

many thanks,

Tawe

Photo Please help photo editing
Posted by: Jano - 10-31-2019, 09:58 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

Good day

I would like to ask you to edit this photo. On the left, people are quite blurred. And I would like to center the whole picture. I can't work in
graphic programs. And I don't even know English very well, so I apologize. Meeting from elementary school 45 years. Or adjust to print a little bit better.

Thank you very much for any help.

Sincerely

Jan Smigura

  python-fu missing, plugins are there
Posted by: dhugg - 10-30-2019, 04:48 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (11)

hello,

have been using gimp 2.8.22 for a while on xp3 (32-bit) platform.  wanted to move to vista sp1 (64-bit) platform.  i used the same install for both machines since i cant find a specific vista 64 bit install (gimp-2.8.22-setup)?  research suggested that gimp checks if 32 or 64 bit and installs accordingly (is that correct?)?

everything is working the same on both machines except "python-fu" is not loading/being displayed.   i have verified the folders setup and i have used the plugin browser which does not show the plugins (ex. fog, heal selection).

i have attached shots of user library, program library, gimp shot, and computer details..

i am not sure how to tell or when python is "installed" on this machine?

any help or direction would be appreciated..

thanks dhugg
