Make shades of the same color more visable
Posted by: Bloodylips - 12-17-2019, 06:58 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (6)

Hello Everyone

I've made a card boarder which is filled with a geometric shape pattern where each induvidual triangle in the pattern has a slight difference in shade of the base color. Each card type has a diffrent base color, but the same pattern so I've only use the color drop menu to change the color base of each identical layer to each card type.

Preview of my red shade card:

My problem is that the geomertic patterna now bleeds together, instead of shades of red triangles, the printed version comes out almost solid red. Is their any setting or any other technique i can use to increase the pop-factor between the shades in my pattern?

How do I make a table grid?
Posted by: marigolden - 12-17-2019, 06:39 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

How can I make a table grid, like one you might put in Microsoft Word. And is there a setting to make the corners of the table rounded?

How do I make bubble font text?

I tried to follow these instructions but couldn't find anything under filters that says "Alpha to Logo". Does anyone know of another way to make bubble font?

How to make line stroke only appear on one side of the line?
Posted by: marigolden - 12-17-2019, 01:12 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

When I stroke a selection there a way to prevent the outline from bleeding on the inside of the line? I only want it to surround it outside the selection, not straddling it. Thanks

Photo How to edit only alpha channel?
Posted by: oehqoehfo - 12-16-2019, 05:17 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

Hi I have some issue with editing ONLY alpha channel.

I am trying to brush some part of image in alpha channel but when I do it, gimp brushes(or erases I don't know how should I say) the original image too.

you see here, I am trying to only brush in alpha channel but the original image is brushed too.
How should I do if I want to brush ONLY alpha channel?
I know it's possible in photoshop, but how in GIMP?

  Text/Font preview
Posted by: Gabe - 12-16-2019, 05:11 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

How the heck do I get an existing text layer to change its font while I scroll through the font list?

This is a hard question to ask clearly… So, I have a sentence selected, and I go over to the left side tool options and I can hover over the text box and use the rollerball to cycle through the different fonts, but it's not affecting the sentence I have selected in my font layer in the actual drawing… This is maddening, I used to be able to do this and I just can't figure out how to do it now…

Thanks!

  Strange artifact on export
Posted by: wildisthewind - 12-15-2019, 08:24 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (9)

I spent ages retouching a photo, but when I export it there are a bunch of artifacts in a large area where I used cage transform (but not in other areas where I performed equivalent transformations). Specifically, there's a line at the right-hand border of the cage -- across it the transformations aren't contiguous, and black is showing as two very different values. I'm attaching a crop of the problem area below. Does anyone know what's causing this and ideally how to fix it?? I'm doing this as a favor for someone who anticipates it appearing in print.

It's also worth mentioning that the exported image has grain-type artifacts in areas not affected by the other problem. They're not present in GIMP, just the exported image. In all fairness, the original image isn't the crispest, but this is still a lot more quality-loss than I'd anticipate.

FYI, I'm running 2.10, and the workspace is sRGB 8-bit gamma integer. (Could the problem be that GIMP has been surreptitiously displaying in 32-floating this whole time, even though it says it's in 8-integer?)

Using Gradient to blend four images
Posted by: cpoldedana - 12-15-2019, 03:58 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (10)

Hi.  I am brand new to imaging software and have been using a lot of Youtube and tutorials to learn.  I figured out how to blend two images using a layer mask.  My problem is I have four pictures that I need to blend between pairs.  They are laid out as follows and please don't laugh if i have done something stupid.

Picture1 (No Mask) -  Blend - Picture 2 (Mask Layer) Blend Picture 3 (Mask Layer) - CAN"T GET TO BLEND - Picture 4

I can't figure out how to get picture 3 and 4 to blend.  If I try to used the Mask Layer in picture 3 it messes up the blend with picture 2.  If I add a mask layer to Picture 4, it just makes the image in picture 3 visible with no blend I'm guessing because it has a layer mask.

Can someone explain in newbie terms how to do what I want to do?

Thank You!

  Export Help! New User
Posted by: Cm12 - 12-15-2019, 02:50 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Hi, I'm new to Gimp so excuse my (probably) simple problem. So I've made an Icon I want to export as just a circle. So I put my alien in the circle but when I export it, unknown why to me, the rest of it is back even though I deleted the rest of it.

Thanks!

  make subject pop?
Posted by: echoes - 12-15-2019, 12:03 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

I have various photos that are watercolor/marker---each photo is mostly a bland white with a color subject.
I'd like to:

1. convert the bland white background to #ffffff OR transparent
2. make the subject colors more intense

I have several photos, so ideally I do *not* want to manually edit out the subject with the selection tool.

Any suggestions?

Here's a sample photo: https://ibb.co/F0RQ9Cd

(Note that the colors here are really bad, adding a sample photo just for illustration.)
