sRGB internal processing and bit depth |

from GIMP documentation I understand that GIMP processes internally all in 3x32b floating point no matter what bit depth is used.
What puzzles me most - sRGB is 8bit gamma corrected and if I import 3x16b TIFF, what happens to image originally exported with ProPhoto RGB???
is sRGB just for preview and all available data 3x16b are used for processing anyway, please?
I do not know how to explain it, hopefully you understand.

I have installed Ubuntu18.04LTS subsystem in Win10. Gimp are also installed and updated.
the gimp error messgaes:
(1) when I open gimp with the code: "export DISPALY=:0.0, gimp", an error message will be shown in the Ubuntu terminal, as shown in the below,
Failed to execute child process “dbus-launch” (No such file or directory)
(gimp:1109): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: 10:18:49.757: g_object_set_is_valid_property: object class 'GeglConfig' has no property named 'cache-size'
/usr/bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally without any error message
(2) when I would like to read a image(gimp can not open .eps, .jpeg, but can open PDF file ) with gimp, a gimp message will appear as the following,
Opening '/home/qixycn/P1structure.eps' failed:
Permission denied
I truely hope someone can help me solve these problems. It has troubles me about a week. I'm so frustrated. Thank you in advance.

My own take on luminosity masks. While it pays its dues to PatDavid's canonical tutorial on the subject, it creates the same masks using a different and (hopefully) more efficient method that allows:
- to create a luminosity selection from the current layer in one single click (or one keystroke if you defined shortcuts)
- in a future version, to define your own masks
As usual the script can be found here. Restrictions in this version:
* Only PatDavid's masks, no custom masks yet
* Only for Gimp 2.10 (seems to hit a bug in 2.8)
Enjoy.

I am trying to make a template.
I need a canvas of 2.6875" x 3.21875", I nailed it no problem
But then I need a box the creates a border that is 39" thick or 2.2975" x 2.82875"
I can not seem to define this box by these measurements.
Any help is appreciated and apologize for the simple question.

I have a minor problem. I have a group photograph that I'd like to frame. Unfortunately the photograph is in different proportions to the frame (It's wider in proportion to the height). In normal circumstances, I could crop to the correct proportion, but that would mean losing the people to the sides of the picture. Framing, as, is leaves an ugly band at top and bottom of the picture. In this case, a simple change is possible and easy, in principle. The foreground of the picture is grass. If I could add a blank area to the bottom of the picture, I could use the clone tool to extend the grass to the new bottom of the picture. It's sufficiently amorphous and out of focus, to add without any distinct addition. I've searched the manual, without success. I've a number of pictures which could be improved by such a solution, or variations of a solution.
Cheers
BTW, this is my first post to this forum, so, apologies in advance, if I've not done it 'by the book'
