Crop to Selection Issue |

All of a sudden when I use the Crop to Selection tool, I am getting a second border of 'marching ants' which reflects the crop I have selected. However, it is cropping to a slightly larger area beyond that which is shown in the preview image.
As a test, I exported the image to jpeg and posted online and indeed it is showing the larger crop selection that is not what I want!
I am fairly new to GIMP so am not sure if I have accidentally pressed a wrong button and cannot work out how to correct this.
Any help appreciated!

Preference setting glitch |

I just reset my default new image size in Preferences to 1350 x 1350. That's a great size for experimenting with brush size, colors, etc. My current active image is 2400 x 1800. Immediately after changing that Preferences setting, I clicked to open a new image, and the listed size is 2400 x 1800. What am I missing about Preferences? Is that not a durable setting?

Monitor picture quality adjustment & photo from printer |

I am using an LG ultra HD monitor. I used the LG standard color setting for this model.
Noted that the photo printout quality (Epson L360) is different than what I see on the monitor.
Like to know how can I set my monitor and printer such that the picture quality will be about the same as on my monitor, printed photos from my printer AND from photo studio.
I saw a device to calibrate the monitor before. Cost stops me from venturing that path. Any better cheaper way?
Many thanks.

Export file as JPEG button gets buried |

I don't know what I changed, but now my EXPORT FILE as JPEG button appears where it normally appears... but that button won't do anything. Instead I have to move a few windows out of the way to find a "duplicate" EXPORT FILE as JPEG button which does work. The problem is minor but annoying. I'm sure you all know an easy fix.

Shortcut for "Path from Text" |

Hello,
I use GIMP in a fairly limited way, but one item that I use all the time and would like to code into a few macros is the "Path from text" option. I can't seem to find anywhere in GIMP where there is a shortcut for this, and am having difficulty creating my own.
I tried creating a shortcut by enabling dynamic keyboard shortcuts in the interface section of the preferences and using ctrl + alt + p while hovering over the option, but it doesn't seem to allow creating shortcuts this way for items in the right click menu. I also can't find the "path from text" option in the "configure keyboard shortcuts" menu.
Is this just not an option, or am I missing something ridiculously simple?

I'm trying to take an image of straight roadway and place a 90 curve in it. I figured out how to get any other curve but 90 deg doesn't look right. Any suggestions? The image will be part of a diorama layout.

Best way to resize images? |

Looking for the best way to resize an avatar for a website that won't result in any loss of quality (if possible).
So far from playing around I've found 3 ways to do this.
a.) Drag and drop the image into GIMP > Image > Scale Image > Set Width & Height. (This makes the image look blurry even though I'm only reducing it by 50 pixels wide and 100 pixels tall.
b.) Drag and drop the image into GIMP > Image > Canvas Size > Set Width & Height > Use the move tool in the canvas size window to move the image around until I've found the right spot > Click Resize. This looks much better than a.)
c.) New > Set Width & Height > Drag & Drop Image > Use Move Tool To Reposition Image. Looks clearer than a.) as well.
So is option b.) and c.) the best way to do this absent loosing any image detail?
Thanks.
Maybe some kinda sharpen filter will make images look cleaner / sharper afterward?
