  Recreating an image
Posted by: Viceroy07 - 09-04-2019, 12:20 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (6)

Hello everyone,

I have been trying to imitate this image. So far I have created this but I am still not satisfied with the results. I have cloud brushes installed but I feel like this requires more tools to be used. I do not know what other tools or in what order to use them. So far I have been using brush and smudge and adjusting opacity, hardness, size and toughness. I also want to have this ''misty/foggy'' background behind clouds.

How can I achieve best results like in the first image? What steps do I need to follow?

  Can't open a file from a symbolic-linked folder
Posted by: mcpent - 09-04-2019, 10:02 AM - Forum: Installation and usage - Replies (2)

Hi everybody,
I use GIMP since very early versions and I love it.

I have an issue between Gimp and the Linux File System (ext4).

In my home I have a folder symbolic-linked to an other folder outside the home. I have set the privilege as rw:rw:r and I'm the owner. When I open a file form that directory Gimp says that can't open it because it can't read it. If I open it with an other software like inkscape or gThumb for instance, it works just fine.

Anyone as any idea?

Thank you anyhow Smile

Photo Getting lighting effects around an arch
Posted by: Darth_Sceptaurus - 09-03-2019, 05:25 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

Hi all,

I am trying to get some highlights/shadows going on around this arch on my doorway, similar to what I have on the trim you see above.  I am not finding any simple way to do it, and in fact with every way I have tried I've ended up running into roadblocks.  Can anyone recommend the best, easiest, or most straightforward way to do this?

  text on curve
Posted by: Guillaume - 09-02-2019, 08:15 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

Perhap someone more adept at GIMP can shed some light on a little problem.  I am doing the "text along a curve" thing, but soon get stopped in my track (or curve?)  When I click on  "text along path", the text gets obliterated  by a bunch of  "air bubbles" as you can see in the attachment.  Why do I get this and how can I prevent it happening?

Is it possible to make someone look wet in GIMP if you add rain into a background?

  Gimp, resizing and quality loss
Posted by: rebislori - 09-02-2019, 09:20 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

Hi to everyone, i'm new to this forum and relatively new to the world of graphic manipulation.

I know this subject has been treated many times (in fact, i think i read all of the post about this very same problem), but still i can't make it work for me. And yes, i know also that probably i read the solution many times, but at this point i'm not able to understand it.

I'm aware that when i resize a rasterized image i get some degradation but:

1)Since i switched to V2.10 this got more and more noticeable. I mean, A LOT.

2)I have to create some banners and facebook image with my logo (wich i don't have anymore as vectors). I rebuild it from scratch with inkscape, but for whatever reason, in any format i try to import it into my gimp project, as soon as i scale it down, it becomes a tornado of pixels.

Thanks to everyone for your patience, end excuse my english.

  Gradients between paths
Posted by: christianrpg - 09-01-2019, 11:37 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

I have GIMP 2.10.10 on Windows.

Is there a way to apply a gradient from one (closed) path that terminates around another (closed) path. I am attempting to show elevation on a map and I can assign a certain color to specific distances above/below sea level. But I cannot see how to use gradients to blend these colors so that the terrain looks more "natural". The gradient would need to follow both the contours of the outer path (perhaps as the background color) and use the contours of the inner path (the foreground color) as its limit. Or is there an alternative way to do this? Thank you!

  Add text with script fu
Posted by: carlbcx - 09-01-2019, 03:09 PM - Forum: Scripting questions - Replies (7)

Hello from France,
I have been using Gimp for a long time, having been using GNU/Linux for 20 years.
I'm working on a poster without date. I need, from this file, make 30 similar posters, just adding a different date to each one.
Last year I did it by changing the date by hand.
I wonder if it would not be possible with a Fu script.
- Added slap
- add the text field to the right place and the right size
- choice of the police, size, color, alignment
- adding text (if possible with a dialog box)
- record new file ?

I do not know fu scripts yet but I have programming basics. That does not put me off.
Nevertheless, I just read a lot of pages and I found no example to add a simple text on an image.

So if you could tell me if it's possible and give me some leads, it would be great.

Thank you all in advance,
Carl

  Problem with Text Tool
Posted by: yawni - 08-29-2019, 10:10 PM - Forum: Older Gimp versions (2.8, 2.6....) - Replies (2)

Tears of frustration without the Text Tool on my newly updated 2.8.6 version of Gimp (PC Windows 8.1)...  I've searched the internet, followed the video tutorials, searched and read the related forum threads that I could find but cannot get my text tool to work properly...

...the dialogue box states font size as 28... I click on the text tool in the tool box ("A") and drag a rectangle on the new blank canvas, click the cursor inside the rectangle and start typing...HOWEVER, the text appearing in the rectangle is microscopic...I can see that the color I picked is red and assume that the font etc. is correct but I cannot enlarge the print from the dialogue box...whatever I modify in the menu/ dialogue boxes (e.g. size) does not change anything!

I've checked the layers and experimented with everything I can think of to no avail. (I had the same problem with an earlier version of Gimp and downloaded what I thought was the latest version but did not uninstall the earlier one...maybe this was a mistake???)    Any suggestions?  Anyone?  Thanks!      -yawni
