How to make a background transparent and solid?
Posted by: fallenzOr - 02-07-2019, 03:37 PM - Forum: General questions - No Replies

Hi, Im doing a map for the game Worms Reloaded. The background can be created using transparency or if I create 2 layers, the background can be black instead of transparent, so black or transparent will do a background. But I want to change the color of the background (when Worms Reloaded see black or transparent, it sets a default background image from the game, but I dont want default background).
But how do I change the color of the background if the game only see background as black or transparent?
In other words I want a background image or color but it need to be transparent at same time so it will work as background (everything that is black or transparent I cant touch ingame, so it works as background, images or color is not transparent so I can touch ingame.
I think it should be something like a image layer behind the background.
There is maps with image as background so it is possible to do
Im working with TGA file
Im very new to Gimp, just downloaded it yesterday to work with game maps

  Setting one path along another
Posted by: dglp - 02-07-2019, 10:10 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

I want to arrange a set of figures along an arc. At the moment, the figures are defined by a groups of paths. I'm wondering if that set of paths can be aligned to another path in an arc shape, in a way that's similar to setting text along a path.

I've been trying to search on various things like "path along path" and not getting anywhere. Not sure what to call it!

Plugin for converting images to g-code for laser engraving
Posted by: DougCoffland - 02-07-2019, 12:58 AM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (12)

I'm new to gimp and pretty much a novice at using it. But, I have done quite a bit of work with CNC routers and am dabbling with laser engraving.  This led me to create a gimp plug-in that converts images to g-code for laser engraving. I have versions for 2.8 and 2.10 on Windows and a separate version for linux. I haven't tried it on a mac but am pretty sure I can get that going as well.

If there is interest, I'd be happy to make it public.

What do you think?

  Cropping question
Posted by: buzzdixn - 02-07-2019, 12:25 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

After searching for an answer and not finding anything, I ask this...
I would like to use the ellipsis tool to select an oval or round area of an image then crop what's around it, leaving only the oval/round part of the image.
Does anybody know how this can be done ?
Thanks in advance for any help and guidance...

OpenCL not working - hardware acceleration
Posted by: Bucic - 02-06-2019, 05:09 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

Recently I went ahead and confirmed whether OpenCL is actually working on my GIMP installation. It seems it doesn't. I've tested it on the non-legacy Photocopy filter as well as with Exposure adjustment, same as this bloke https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVLjBa6Lqbk There is absolutely no perceivable difference in the performance with OpenCL disabled or enabled.
I've got fresh nVidia drivers, Geforce 660 Ti by MSI, AMD FX6300 (6-core 3.5 GHz), Windows 7 x64. So not having OpenCL in working condition is a huge waste.

What can I do to troubleshoot it? Now I realized OpenCL has was never working on my GIMP installs, even though I tried enabling it since early GIMP 2.9 times.

Newbie Tip: Crop layer to Content
Posted by: Ritergeek - 02-06-2019, 03:36 PM - Forum: Tutorials and tips - No Replies

When I first began seriously exploring GIMP, I was dismayed, confused and frustrated to discover that small newly created objects that filled a small fraction of a layer were embedded in an entire layer, making it almost impossible to scale them. I finally noticed the CROP TO CONTENT option on the layer menu. So simple!

Watch tutorials. The time you invest watching them will be returned many times over by avoiding frustrating delays like I mention above.

  xubuntu 18-04 - revert to GIMP 2.8, - URGENT
Posted by: petter5 - 02-06-2019, 01:17 PM - Forum: Linux and other Unixen - Replies (5)

Hi !  Using xubuntu 18.04, my system today had suddenly upgraded to GIMP 2.1x

I'm mostly using GIMP to cut, scale and save images for my web page, and using the save for web pluging  all the time for evry image.   It seems that the savee for web plugin is not  supported under GIMP 2.1x.
Yes, I know that you can do the same operations with other tools, but it is far more work intensive and without the "save for web " plugin, I will have to eiter abandon gimp, or revert to previous gimp 2.8x version.

If you are an artist, the "save for web" pluging might not be vert important, but for me, using gimp for preparing images for my websigte, it is the most important feature.

After reading the forum, it seems that no one plans for making the save for web plugin work under 2.1x ??
so my question is: how to revert to the latest Gimp 2.8x and the save for web when running Xubuntu 18.04 and prevent gimp to be upgraded to never versions in the future ?

Just now, i dont have time to wait for somone fixing the save for web plugin under 2.1x so I need my 2.8x running asain ASAP  :-)

How to change color of borders?
Posted by: magnuslar - 02-06-2019, 12:00 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (15)

Hi!

I have an image of a logo where I need to change the color to blue - but there is a residue of red along the borders of the letters in the logo. See attached file. How can I eliminate this? I see how I can "select by color" and change the filling color, but the lines around - how can I select and change them?

Magnus

  Transparent an icon
Posted by: Zon - 02-06-2019, 11:14 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (7)

Hello
Just found this forum and hopefully will be very useful to me.
I have been playing around with GIMP but its I find it too complicated and need to start from the beginning with the right tutorials.

I'm looking to design a logo and need to make the icon transparent or negative space. Would appreciate if someone can show how this can be done.

image attached.

Also, any beginner tutorial videos to get me started.  I'm looking at studying branding and logo design.

Thanks
