Photo Import from CorelDraw a file with its objects
Posted by: Herve - 03-12-2018, 04:05 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

Hi everybody

I'm a new Gimp user, so maybe my question is stupid ... Sorry about it if so  Confused

I have a CorelDraw .cdr file and I would like to import it in Gimp. I also have CorelDraw software (free test edition) so I can export this file in another format if needed. I would like to import the file (more exactly its objects) into Gimp, so I could continue using Gimp to modify the logo. But it seems Gimp can't read .cdr files.

Please could you tell me which filetype I should use to export it from CorelDraw and then import it into Gimp ? Of course, I want to keep most informations about the CorelDraw "objects" (~ like objects and/or layers in Gimp)

If needed, here are the whole list of filetypes that can be used or export with Corel :

Thanks a lot for your help !  Smile

  Google Fonts

Does anybody know of a place where you can download all google fonts but sorted by category in folders ?

I made the greedy mistake to download them all, but obviously they are way too many. Even my font manager almost crashes when i try to view them Smile
Im too lazy to sort them all by myself, but maybe somebody else has ?

Question Star Wars poster
Posted by: MikeA - 03-11-2018, 09:04 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (23)

Hi, I am new to GIMP. How do you make a poster like this with GIMP?
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/e...poster.jpg

I am not trying to copy the picture itself. I am trying to learn how to insert a picture into a font. i have already drawn the outline of the text with Autocad in vector format. I don't want to copy the Disney font, so I made a font of my own. But how do I continue from there? Or should I use vector programs like Inkscape?

  Lomo Effect for 2.9.9
Posted by: dinasset - 03-11-2018, 01:00 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (6)

Hi.
I'm playing a bit with 2.9.9 and to train myself I started writing some very small filters.
This one is not ORIGINAL, i.e. has not been invented by me:  I took a couple of two small existing filters (in .scm), combined into just one and ported into python.
The original filters are:
- Alexia Death's script-fu-lomo-effect and Avi Bercovich's script-fu-lomo
Comments, critics, suggestions are welcome.
If someone is interested in the originals I attach here also those.
They are the versions I have in my folders, menu has been modified, they will appear under BestFilters/Photo/Effects (I do not remember the original menu).
My filter will appear under menu="<Image>/Diego/Ancillary2"

When scaled down edges looks jagged
Posted by: chrisj - 03-10-2018, 08:32 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (10)

When I load bulb--1.png(attached) on a web page it appears to have smooth edges, but it's too large.
So, after I scale image 50% and upload it (bulb--2.png)(attached)to web page the images edges don't seems smooth, more jagged in appearance. How can I reduce the size and keep the smooth edge appearance?

How to unpack GIMP distribution package without running a Windows installer?
Posted by: ajax - 03-09-2018, 04:00 PM - Forum: Watercooler - Replies (1)

Per this post I've now been able to configure GIMP to run, on Windows, in portable fashion.  In this case portable means install on a secondary drive so that the same instance of GIMP can be used on different computers and/or systems.

At present the method of unpacking the files from the normal GIMP distribution package involves running the installer which allows for placing the files on a secondary drive.  However, installers are able to do other things that are NOT desired in this case.  I have no idea what other things the GIMP installer might be doing but it would be better not to run the installer.

There is a tool that can be used for this purpose if the installer is created using Inno Setup.  Another common approach is for the package to be distributed as an archive (e.g., .zip, .tar, etc.) that can be unpacked without running an installer.  This works pretty good when installers don't need to make revisions to the underlying OS which is normally the case for software designed to run on multiple platforms (i.e., Windows, Linux, OSX, etc.).  I'm guessing this should not be too difficult for GIMP.

However, for right now the question is will InnoExtract work on existing GIMP distribution packages?
