I have scanned several pages to my MBP.
when I open a file in GIMP I get pop up message:
JPEG Image Message: Corrupt JPEG data:240 extraneous bytes before marker 0xd9
I just click okay, carry on with my edits and save file to jpg in another location.
1. what does this error mean?
2. and do I really need to be concerned about it.
3. the edited files I will save as a group and pass on to others.
thnx

Why are lower layers cropping higher layers? |

Please watch the video at this site:
http://www.shahspace.com/gimp anomoly.mp4
What it shows is a new layer being created by a copy of a section of another layer. The new layer is then dragged to the bottom border of the lower layer and is cropped off. Why is it cropped off?
The new layer is on top. It shouldn't be cropped by anything.
In the video, I toggle the visibility of each layer to show the boundaries. It would be understandable if the middle layer acted as a viewport to all layers below it, thus cropping off any layers below it that aren't in the viewport. But this new layer is on top. So why is it being cropped?

Hi
I have a scanned image with some text at the top , a picture in the middle, and some text at the bottom.
I would like to make the picture smaller, while retaining the text so that the whole can make a CD box label 138mm wide x 117mm tall.
I have made duplicate layers, but I find that when I start editing one layer it edits the original layer as well.
Is there a tutorial which shows how to do this correctly?
I have tried Googling but most results are long and I haven't found one which covers what I am trying to do.

Designing game boards |

Hello, this is my first post and I've been using Gimp over the years for small tasks such as creating alphas for images and exporting.
I've recently got back into tabletop gaming with games such as Castle Ravenloft, Frostgrave and Horizon Wars. I've started on a project to essentially recreate two MB games from the early 1990s called Hero Quest and Space Crusade, and have been using MS Paint and Gimp to knock up simple grid print outs of game boards to match the sizes of miniature bases. Sadly my 2D artskills are lacking(compared to my 3D skills and miniature painting), and although the boards I have made so far are good enough for gaming, I would really like to take it further and produce better looking board art. I could just print the originals, but I actually enjoy doing it from scratch.
Would anyone know of any videos or books on this subject?
