Gimp freezing on Open/Export files |

Hello, for a while now, gimp has been very slow or stops responding on every file operation.
I have tried uninstaling gimp and even formated my compter recently, and i am still experiencing the same problem.
I have read on other threads about "phantom drives" which could caus gimp to freez but i have not found any of that on my computer, though i am not quite sur what to look for.
The only thing that works is right clicking a file and choosing "open with gimp".
All other file operations either take 10 minutes to load, or fail.
i have tried, uninstalling and re-installing
i have tried formating my computer
i have tried disconecting my computer from the internet
Thank you!

Filter: luminosity-tiler-0.1.py
Author: Ofnuts
Date: 2013
I have two images open.
- The image on which I want to apply the filter and the image that contains the Tiles.
- Tiles used are those from XCF in the sample file provided on Sourceforge (LuminosityCircleTiles.xcf).
I activate the image, activate the filter, indicate the image with Tiles in the filter...
The error below appears:
GIMP Error
Calling error for procedure 'plug-in-pixelize2':
Procedure 'plug-in-pixelize2' has been called with an invalid ID for argument 'image'. Most likely a plugin is trying to work on an image that doesn't exist any longer.
Tiles from Luminosity Warning
Procedure 'plug-in-pixelize2' has been called with an invalid ID for argument 'image'. Most likely a plugin is trying to work on an image that doesn't exist any longer.
I've never used this plugin before, I just installed it and was wanting to try it out. so I don't know exactly if I'm doing everything right or if I'm doing something wrong.
Maybe an outdated plugin?
Thx

Trying to get "oft-interleave-layers" plug-in to work. |

Hello all,
I need to get some GIF work done and do one of the most brutal tasks of all: Adding text to a GIF (dun dun dun)
I downloaded the oft-interleave-layers plugin from Ofnuts' list of scripts here . I got the .zip, extracted the .py file into my plug-in folder (Home > .config > GIMP > 2.10 > plug-ins > oft-interleave-layers.py). This plug-in folder is the first folder in my Preferences options. The .py is also executable.
I am not able to get the plug-in to even show in my menus however. The documentation states that the plug-in should be available under Image but after numerous retries and fiddling, I am not able to get this to work.
Any help would be appreciated.
I find it ironic that I'm spending more time getting this to work than manually adding the text to each layer lol, but I know that it'll save me time in the upcoming projects.
After some more fiddling, I found a solution to my own problem. I am on Manjaro, and I don't know what the equivalent would be on other distros/platforms.
I had to install the python2-gimp package from the AUR. I either did not have the package that GIMP needs for plug-ins, or the script doesn't work with python3, or maybe both! I don't know what happens for what reason in plug-in development, but oh well. Any way, the plug-in works like a charm now.

invalid file type? |

HI - I am new to GIMP but just installed the 2.10.30 version. I have a few images that I want to have GIMP modify. So after I load GIMP on my MS Windows 10 64 bit OS and then go to FILE=>OPEN and select a file, I get a message from GIMP for the file that I am trying to open - Opening 'C:\Users\GP Standalone\Pictures\bow2.jpg' failed:
Unknown file type
If I copy the same image to the Windows clipboard and then use FILE=> CREATE (from Clipboard), I have no trouble seeing the image in the GIMP workarea. I can then SAVE the file as an ..XCF and then Open it successfully. However if I try to export the work from GIMP to a say x.jpg file, I get the GIMP message - The given filename does not have any known file extension. Please enter a known file extension or select a file format from the file format list.
Does anyone recognize what is happening here? Thanks

I have a pdf of over 400 pages. I am using the following script to convert the pdf into another pdf with fonts looking old.
https://ideone.com/8uerbj
Now, for pdf of <200 pages, the script worked properly. But for this one, it's only producing only around 60 pages. Any idea what might cause that?
Already tried importing pdf in a lower resolution so RAM doesn't act up. Didn't help

Can't grasp relationship between image resolution and printer DPI |

Hello there,
I want to create an image that will be printed in a 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper. My printer (an entry level color laser printer), can print at 600 DPI. I want to print the entire image to occupy the whole paper looking sharp and crisp (as far as my printer allows it). If I set the size of the image to 8.5" x 11" with 600 DPI, the result is a huge image that is difficult to manipulate since I'm going to be using lot of warp tool and filters.
So how should I proceed?
Should I forget about the DPI setting until I finish creating the image?
Again the image I'm creating is not to be seen on a screen but to be printed.

Can't Move a Selection |

I've been at this for a while now, and even with Google searches etc., I simply cannot move a selection.
I thought I had done this dozens of times before, so I'm kind of sitting here wondering - why can I suddenly not move a selection?
I already know about the "Move Layer" vs. "Move Selection" mode aspect - and I have it in "Move Selection" mode.
And it does allow me to move the selection - but not really. It only moves the outline and never lets me move the content. It also never creates any Floating temp layer either.
This CANNOT be this hard. Moving stuff around is fundamental to image processing - so I MUST be missing something obvious.
Can the user really not simply select something and move it?
I have seen advice for copying and/or cutting and pasting to a new layer - but I don't want a new layer - I want to move my selection within the layer I'm working on. What if a layer had 2-dozen items and you wanted to shift them around. This approach would require 2-dozen layers? That makes no sense.
I'm stumped.
thanks for any help!
