Resize the image but no scale
Posted by: ovisergiu - 02-18-2022, 02:52 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

Hi, I have this transparent PNG.
What I need is to make it bigger only on the width (extend the right side so I can add more text layers).
I tried Image - Scale and increased the width but that's not what I need, since that enlarges the image and it spaces all the layers.

I only need to extend its right side so I can continue adding text layers with symbols (this file contains many symbols added via separate layers side by side so another software will read it.)
How can I make the right side bigger? (extend the right side without disturbind the rest of the image)
Gimp 2.10.30
Windows 10 x64

Thank you!

  Polar Coordinates, not working right?
Posted by: shorte85 - 02-18-2022, 06:58 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

I'm either not doing something right or something isn't working right. LOL

But I'm trying to get a radial starburst effect from the center of my eye that I'm working on, and I can't seem to get the polar coordinates to work like I think they're supposed to work?

I created a radial gradient to get my lines, and then trying to apply the filter to the gradient but it isn't giving me the "star burst from center" effect if that makes sense? Or also known as speed lines...

I uploaded a screenshot. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong?

  Bump map
Posted by: hendrikbez - 02-18-2022, 05:20 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Good morning

Thank you for every one that is helping me, I have learned quit a lot from all of you.

I just want to ask a question

I have 8 different cxf files open in Gimp.   Each one that I have color is different, so if I want to use bump map once on the first one, and then want to repeat "bump map" on the others, then it will not work on the others as the color is different, how can I get it to work without to change to the name every time, is this possible
Here is a ample, I have only 2 open, so I must every time go and select the cxf file and the name to use bump map.

Question Realistic dragon/animal eye tutorial??
Posted by: shorte85 - 02-18-2022, 03:57 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Out of curiosity, does anyone have a good tutorial on making a realistic eye? Like a dragon/animal eye?

Tutorials I have found to do a dragon eye seem to be old and I can't follow them because steps they're being told to do can't seem to figure it out in gimp to try and follow along...

Any help would be appreciated! Big Grin

Thanks!! Smile

  Darker lines?
Posted by: sl60 - 02-16-2022, 11:36 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

I'm trying to make the cut lines on this stone sample a bit more prominent. I tried levels, brightness-Contrast, Erode, and Cartoon and all don't work.

Any ideas?

  Odd problem
Posted by: doodle - 02-16-2022, 07:42 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

I develop realtime virtual fish. I use GIMP to add transparency, etc. Here is a problem I never can do well. Look at the low res image of the tail. The end of the tail is semi-transparent. You will notice the tip it is green but really that is the background showing through. I want to remove the green without hurting the ribs of the tail which are slightly darker.
If I use eraser with less opacity it works but the ribs are lightened and it is just lighter green. I also tried fizzy select but that takes all of it away. I want to remove the green so fish tail is semi-transparent. Is there a way with GIMP to do this?

  Weird marks on my art?
Posted by: shorte85 - 02-16-2022, 07:20 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

Hi, was hoping someone could help me? I am trying to get a smooth "3D effect on text" in gimp. I am following a tutorial, and it has me create a paint brush by copying a selection which I did.... Once I created my path using a text (font) to trace and then stroke path so that way the paint brush I created is used.

However, instead of it being smooth and pretty like the tutorial... I am seeing weird marks, which I uploaded the screenshot so you can see it too.

Could it be due to my brush settings not being quite right or is it something to do with my laptop graphics?

  Making vertical/horizontal guide permanent?
Posted by: shorte85 - 02-16-2022, 03:48 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

I was wondering if there is a way to make it so that when I open a new canvas in gimp, that the center horizontal guide and vertical guide lines are already there automatically without having to do it manually? I tried looking in the preferences settings, but not sure if I was looking in the right area or not.

Thanks. Smile
