  A torus????
Posted by: respoda - 01-13-2020, 09:29 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

Searched far and wide but as usual the info available for gimp is scattered beyond reproach.

I need to know how to make a torus in gimp, with grid.

I can do half a torus by just duplicating circles around:

But when closing the loop, there is always a hole where the outside skin with grid should be:

So instead of having the squared grid all around, you can still see the inside of the torus.

Help please. Trying to find out by myself just means wasting days of time I really need.

How to get rid of lines in texture of image?
Posted by: Mygale - 01-13-2020, 07:44 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

Hi all,

I would like to recreate an old jacket. After all those years they do not sell the fabric anymore. That's why I took a picture so I can get the fabric custom print the fabric. The original fabric was corduroy, so the texture of the fabric has these vertical lines. The images (vintage cars) on the fabric therefore also have vertical lines resulting in subtle color differences between the lines.

I'm afraid that when I print it on corduroy again the vertical lines and color differences will be intensified, which will make it look weird.

I've been trying to remove the lines and color differences using Gimp. So far I tried the default blur filters, the smudge tool and the resynthesizer health plugin, but without any good results. Does anyone here maybe have a tip or advice on how I can better remove the lines and make the cars have a solid even color?

Any help is appreciated!

Dissolve transition between frames for webp
Posted by: meetdilip - 01-12-2020, 12:30 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

I tried to create a webp lossless animation. It went fine, but the change of frames was abrupt. So the animation looked jerky. Is it possible to use a transition like dissolve when creating a webp animation ? If yes, please tell me how.

Creating "zoomed" text where first letter is smallest and the last biggest
Posted by: stl1 - 01-11-2020, 05:10 PM - Forum: Older Gimp versions (2.8, 2.6....) - Replies (5)

Sorry for the bad title.

However, how can I create text where first letter of the sentence is smallest and the last is largest, so that it will nicely "zoom" from upper left to lower right. Creating all letters separately and changing their fonts obviously does not create smooth zoom.

I attached some kind of example pic of what I'm trying to create.
The upper parts of letters should be at the same level.

  equations for vignette filter
Posted by: formerphysicist - 01-11-2020, 12:51 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

I'm not currently a Gimp user, but I'd like to know the equations used for the vignette filter. Are they anywhere in the documentation, or just buried in the source code somewhere?

Is it me or is justify:filled non-functional in the Text tool of 2.10.14?
Posted by: Ofnuts - 01-10-2020, 11:41 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

As title says.

Can't get a "filled" text (tried with Fixed and Dynamic box sizes), the "Filled" icon does the same thing as left-justified. I would report a bug but I want to make sure I'm not missing something obvious.

  Colored Rings
Posted by: bearcat22 - 01-08-2020, 06:22 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Please God, have mercy on me. My intentions are good. This is to make a gift for a precious friend, a game set.

I am trying to reproduce the rings shown on the game board in the image at the bottom of this post.

Since there aren't any "how to draw a colored ring" directions, I am attempting to follow the steps on WikiHow entitled Draw A Circle in Gimp.

https://www.wikihow.com/Draw-a-Circle-in-Gimp

However, even though this guide is insanely long and arduous, it is missing crucial information.

It does have pictures, but not ENOUGH pictures.  It names things, but does not tell the user WHERE in the insanely complex GIMP interface, to Find Them.

For example, Step 6 says

"Select the color you want to use for the border in the color picker. Click the current foreground color in the Toolbox and select the color you want to use as the border for the circle."

This is Not Enough Information. The image on step six shows a rainbow menu.  But going to Tools > Color Picker does NOT show me any such rainbow menu.

  Using a grid
Posted by: bearcat22 - 01-08-2020, 04:16 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Thank you for your constructive advice.

I have pasted an image into GIMP and now would like to superimpose a TEMPORARY grid of lines
to assist me in positioning shapes over that image.

It isn't clear how to do this.
