  Eyedropper icon detects wrong color
Posted by: Nos402 - 04-13-2020, 09:23 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Okay this is really weird and maybe I just don't understand how something works. So the way I've been "sampling" a color, is to bring up the color picker window, clicking the eyedropper icon, and clicking the color. When I do it this way, it samples the wrong color. The color it detects is not correct.

However, when using Fill, or a brush, holding CTRL turns it into an eyedropper. When I do it THIS way, it samples the CORRECT color and can fill it or paint it. So the ACTUAL color I'm trying to use is #2f00d3 but if I click the eyedropper ICON in the "Change Foreground Color" window it detects it as #0030d5 which is the wrong color. So is there an issue with the Eyedropper icon in the Change Color window or do I just not understand something here? Should the Ctrl-click detect the same color as the Eyedropper icon in the Change Color window?

  Clone Tool Not Working
Posted by: Paul E. Lehmann - 04-13-2020, 01:51 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (11)

Running Gimp 2.10.14 on Mac OS Catalina Version 10.15.4

Clone tool does not work.

It seems as if I can select what to clone but when trying to paint or substitute, nothing appears.  I have tried every option under the clone tool list of options and have tried suggestions others have posted.

I can do "Clone" with Affinity Photo but not Gimp.

It seems to be a common problem.

Any suggestions other than just use Affinity and forget Gimp.

  Unable to select rectangles
Posted by: Richie's Room - 04-10-2020, 10:58 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Hi,

I'm trying to re-do the logo on my blog (you can see the current version in the top left corner here: https://richiesroom.com/)

What I want to do is have a transparent background with the text and three coloured bars remaining the same, whatever background colour is selected on the site.  I've set an alpha channel for the transparency and added the text that I want.

What I'm struggling with is adding three rectangles, filling with the desired colour, and then selecting all 3 so that I can use the alignment tool.  It seems as though as soon as I move off a rectangle I'm unable to select it again to do anything with it.  Where am I going wrong?  And what do I need to do to fix it? :-)

Thanks.

  Batch processing question
Posted by: cardioid - 04-10-2020, 05:20 PM - Forum: Older Gimp versions (2.8, 2.6....) - Replies (7)

Hi everyone,

first post here - please be gentle :-)

I have a number of images and I'd like to add a white border around them to make them look more like a photograph. Can I use a batch process for that or will I need to do one at a time?

Thanks!

Getting Liquid Rescale to work on Gimp 2.10.18 revision 2
Posted by: aridavid5 - 04-10-2020, 02:58 PM - Forum: Installation and usage - No Replies

This workaround was done in Windows 10, and would have to be verified for other OS.

I found a way of getting liquid rescale to work on 2.10.18 revision 2 in Windows 10. It's a workaround, and since it requires a "dirty" install I don't really like it. However, until in works normally I'm doing it this way.

  • Assuming we're starting with a clean install, first install Gimp 2.10.14 revision 3 (gimp-2.10.14-setup-3)
  • Second, copy the liquid rescale plugin files, inside their own folder, to the plug-ins folder (If installed for all of users it's usually C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins  OR  if installed for a single user it's usually C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Programs\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins )
  • Third, run Gimp so that it loads the plugin.
  • Fourth, install Gimp 2.10.18 revision 2 (gimp-2.10.18-setup-2) over the 2.10.14 rev 3 installation. In other words, don't uninstall the previous version (don't perform a clean install). DO NOT RUN GIMP YET.
  • From here there are various paths depending on how the installation was done:
  1. Wether Gimp was installed for all users, or just a single user, if the liquid rescale plugin files were copied into their own folder, then everything should be working fine.
  2. If Gimp was installed for a single user and the liquid rescale plugin files the plugin files were were not copied into their own folder, then you have to copy them again.  This is because, when we installed 2.10.18 rev 2 over the previous installation of 2.10.14 rev 3, the liquid rescale plugin DLL was deleted. If you run Gimp before recopying the files an error will pop-up and the plug-in will no longer be recognized by Gimp. To fix it, you will need to do a clean reinstall from 2.10.14 rev 3.
  3. If Gimp was installed for all users and the liquid rescale plugin files the plugin files were were not copied into their own folder, then you have to copy them again.  This is because, when we installed 2.10.18 rev 2 over the previous installation of 2.10.14 rev 3, the liquid rescale plugin DLL was deleted. If you run Gimp before recopying the files the plugin will work. It will give an error saying the required DLL is missing. To fix it, just recopy the plugin files and restart Gimp.

Align function: can you arrange layers side-by-side? (left edge of #2 to right of #1)
Posted by: Chipek - 04-09-2020, 09:23 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

Hi guys,

is there any way how to use the Align function to actually arrange two layers side-by-side in a way that the second layer, let's say its left edge, will jump to where the right edge of the first layer ends? Something as if putting together a stitched image. At the moment, Align only aligns left edge to left edge, if you know what I mean...

Or is there a different function? Some 'snap' or something? Otherwise I have to drag the layer #2 manually (using Move) and zoom in to align and not overlap a single pixel of the two layers).

Thx Gimp masters Wink

Music Matching subjects together in background
Posted by: jichuyeyo - 04-09-2020, 03:21 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

So, my current goal is trying to match these ladies with the background. I would like to adjust their lighting and color to make it better suit the background. I have already tried adjusting curves using a grey luminosity layer but they still look weird to me. I can find other pictures to use if these pictures fundamentally won't work together, but I would love not having to do that. And when I do color match, I have trouble telling which colors match and which colors don't, so I would prefer comparing point values rather than matching colors by eye. Any suggestions?

  Extremely Faded Diazo Print Restoration
Posted by: Gimpy222 - 04-08-2020, 08:42 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

I have some old engineering drawings that were created using the diazo process nearly 60 years ago. The paper is yellowed with age and there is spotting from mold and mildew over the years. Most of the lines are pretty much intact, but in may places the text is illegible.

Originally the print would have had a light blue to white background with dark blue lines. Something like this.

[Image: blueprint-diazo-paper-ammonia.jpg?fit=640%2C426]

I don't need to recreate the original "look", I just need to enhance the the text to make it legible. Ideally grayscale for printing on white paper. Background noise isn't an issue. This is a research project. Being able to read the faded text when printed more important than overall aesthetics.

I've experimented with the Levels and Curves tools. So, so results.  Looking for ideas or a process to get the best results. Thanks Sandy

Here is a sample from one of the sheets.
