Is there a way to deselect the gaps in an item with fuzzy select?
Posted by: marigolden - 02-22-2020, 09:41 PM - Forum: General questions - No Replies

fuzzy selecting an item to stroke an outline, but i don't want the gaps within it to be outlined as well. When I try to deselect the gaps it just drops the entire selection. Any way around this while still using the fuzzy select tool and not paths?

Hahah okay so researching this...I came across one of my old posts, and saw Blighty's trick of selecting the background then inverting! Lol >< so, that's solved

Selecting Large Amount of Small Specks
Posted by: Gimpy222 - 02-22-2020, 03:01 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

I have several hundred scanned pages I received as 1-bit images. The person that scanned them left a LOT of specks 1 to 10 pixels in diameter. To manually remove them will take weeks. Is there a script that will select all the specks and change them to background color and then save them as the same file name?

The text is rather bumpy, but I doubt there is anything that can be done with that.

Thanks Sandy

Changing an image to one shade of black
Posted by: St1mz - 02-21-2020, 10:33 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hello, I am St1mz. Sorry if I’m kind of an anime fan, but I really want to make a shirt of megumin, and I have an image of her, but I want to make it just one color, complete black, so that I can cut it out with my fabric machine. Is it possible to color it to just straight black, with no shading, just pure black? I linked the image I’m trying to turn to black below.

This script paints evenly spaced brush strokes along a path.

Available at the usual place.

Enjoy.

Fill not working on new layer, what am I doing wrong
Posted by: dmacleod - 02-21-2020, 11:33 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

When I have an image with a single layer and I use the 'Rectangle Select Tool' to select an area of an image, then use the 'Bucket Fill Tool' to fill the selected area with a color, everything works fine.
However, if I add a new layer (using all default values), make sure the new layer is the active layer, then use the 'Rectangle Select Tool', and 'Bucket Fill Tool', the selected area does not fill with the color. I'm using GIMP 2.10 on Windows 10.
Am I missing a step?

  Linear histogram very low visibility
Posted by: maboleth - 02-21-2020, 10:49 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Hi guys, is it possible to make linear histogram more visible? Because as it is, for larger images, I cannot use it at all, but logarithmic only. Am I missing something here?

  no working Mono Mixer
Posted by: denzjos - 02-21-2020, 10:41 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

I just have no working 'Mono Mixer' (Colours / Desaturate / Mono Mixer) on my PC with windows 10 / gimp 2.10.14. / picture RGB. A few minutes ago it was working. I restarted Gimp, no working Mono Mixer. I restarted the computer, no working mono mixer.

Any suggestions ?  Thanks in advance.

I've used CCleaner to clean the windows 10 register and the disk cleaner, restarted the computer and the 'Mono Mixer' is working again. Solved.

Ctrl+shift to snap drawing tool to angle not working?
Posted by: nomad380 - 02-21-2020, 02:09 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

I find suddenly that I am unable to get my brush tool to snap to an angle with ctrl+shift. Is there a setting that may have been changed while I was unaware? The tip still says I should be able to do it, but I cannot. Shift to draw a straight line is still functional. What am I missing?

Also(while I'm here), somehow my tools got grouped up instead of being displayed individually in the toolbox. It's not the end of the world, but is kind of awful. Is there any way to change it back?

Thanks for any help!

Resizing and Adding to an image
Posted by: jimindt - 02-20-2020, 11:17 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

I've resized an image to add some space to the bottom of it. When I do that what happens is that I get the added space as 'transparent.' i.e. it shows up as that checkerboard pattern which means that its transparent. If it helps, my foreground color is white.

My problem is that I can't seem to be able to do anything with the added space. I want to copy/duplicate the area above it into it. I've selected it with the rectangle tool and then run the Heal Selection tool on it. No results. I've selected it with the rectangle tool and tried to fill it with the foreground color (white). Again no results.

Obviously I'm missing some step here which will let me work in the added area at the bottom of the picture.

TIA,

Jim

  3 annoying problems. Help!
Posted by: FrederikBojsen - 02-20-2020, 09:33 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

I have 3 annoying problems with GIMP

1. My text preference is not saving between files -> left side tool box text A -> change to my preference -> preferences -> tool options -> save tool options now

This doesn't work..

2. I would like to have 300 DPI as the default and it is in the 'default image'. However! When I open my pictures it is not. And when I change it to 300 and put on a new layer
(like a scale bar) - it goes back to the old DPI again. Super annoying! It is roughly 72 DPI.

3. My layers (scale bar + sample info) not getting exported with my edited file! Again I have to merge them all to make it work - but then I cant redo anything if I want to.
This is a new problem for me.

I export in TIF with no compression.

Hope ANYONE can help me.

I have a deadline Sad

/Frederik
