  Screen size
Posted by: al.da.drone - 09-04-2018, 10:58 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

I am learning Gimp and Inkscape I'm using a laptop with only a 14inch screen which I find annoying to say the least.
Really I want a second monitor mainly to watch tutorials while working, so I'm just wondering if its worth it buying a £60.00 21 inch monitor on Amazon would it benefit my experience using Gimp. I really dont want to invest 100's of pounds on anything right now.

Moving dockable dialogue tabs - Gimp 2.10
Posted by: rich2005 - 09-03-2018, 08:37 AM - Forum: Tutorials and tips - Replies (4)

Several request recently on moving tabs. The default Gimp 2.10 setup is a little cluttered. Not difficult to rearrange but users often have problems dragging the dockable dialogue tabs around.

Normally I cover this in a general setup or 'how-http:// to-fix' demo but this video is just about moving those tabs.

Dockable dialogs not able to move
Posted by: stronics - 09-02-2018, 10:33 PM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (2)

I am using 2.10.6 and the dockable dialogs refuse to move and are in the wrong spot. I like the default location but it won't let me do anything to it.
Any help would be appreciated.

My text size default is massive
Posted by: al.da.drone - 09-02-2018, 07:10 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Hi there Gimp Forum I have a new issue that I hope somebody on here can solve. My text size default is 2164 and its doing my nut in. Is this a bug in Gimp or can it be rectified in the setting.I've had a look and I see no option for this. I've added an attachment.

Thanks

Question How to stroke a path using clone tool ?
Posted by: le.snake - 09-02-2018, 04:26 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (9)

I know how to use the clone tool : ctrl + clic to select source image, then clic.

Now to remove a wire in the sky, I create a path then I want to use the clone tool when stroking that path.

Then I get a dialog telling me to select a source image. Which I already did previously.
Steps are

  • open image
  • create path
  • select clone tool
  • ctrl + clic to define source
  • select path
  • stroke path
  • select "use paint tool" (I translate, 'cause I use french HMI)
  • select clone
  • click stroke
Get a dialog saying to select source image.
  • close that dialog
while the stroke path dialog open:
  • ctrl + clic to define source
  • click stroke
Get a dialog saying to select source image.

I tested that on both windows and linux.

Gimp 2.10.6

Did any body succeed in using clone when stroking a path ?

Btw, if you got a better trick to remove wires in pictures, I get it !

This is probably a stupid question even for my standards. If i find a image on Google that is 341 x 337 is it possible using some form of program on Gimp or a stand alone app to magic the image size to make it so it doesnt lose quality when scaling it.
Think this isn't possible.
Thanks

  Using text from other software
Posted by: al.da.drone - 09-01-2018, 02:25 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

I have been finding it dfficult to get to grips with Gimp regarding text. Anyway I have been having a go on Inkscape and the text option is a lot easier to be honest. Is it possible to import the text as a PNG file or JPEG into Gimp.

Gimp 2.10, Monoprice tablet and G'mic...
Posted by: btraven - 09-01-2018, 02:48 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

When 2.10 came out, I downloaded it and deleted my all other Gimp stuff. It worked great. Then I got a Monoprice 10x6.25 inch drawing tablet. I couldn't get it to work with 2.10 so I deleted 2.10 and downloaded the latest version of 2.8. Once I figured out the right driver, the tablet worked okay with 2.8 but...   now I didn't have G'mic anymore. I tried to download G'mic for 2.8 but couldn't get it to work. There's a video that shows how to get G'mic to work with 2.8 but it's done by one of those assholes that wants to show how fast they can do stuff not how or why it's done. When, after stopping the video a bunch of times, I more-or-less figured it out, I found that, following the steps in the video, my results don't match his.

Does anyone know how I can get a Monoprice tablet to work with 2.10 with G'mic installed. It seems I can have 2.10 with G'mic but no tablet or 2.8 with the tablet but no G'mic.

  Additional distortion filters?
Posted by: OurJud - 08-31-2018, 10:39 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (2)

I love to play around distressing images in Gimp, but find the filters somewhat lacking.

Is there any plugins available that specifically provide filters and effects for this kind of manipulation?

  Flood Light?
Posted by: Howitser - 08-31-2018, 06:06 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (1)

Is there a setting or plug in that can add flood light effects?  I've been through the filters & can add the spot lights & such, but would like to be able to find a way to add a much wider beam lighting effect.

Thanks!
