Hi All,
I have watched the video on tracing I click on the paths button, I start my outline however nothing happens. I don't see any dots?  Am I missing something?  I am a newbie have have not used gimp that much,  I am sorry to be such a dummy but this is all new to me???  Can someone explain what I am doing wrong or give me a link to a tutorial that shows you step by step?  I only learn by doing so any explanation or video will help.  I greatly appreciate any help in this matter, ps I have gimp 2.10.8.

Its for PS and AI, but you can use the included png's and convert them to a Gimp .pat file yourself.

Im trying to make a custom brush but when I go to import as a brush, this is the error message I get.        

                                                      Saving 'Crogram FilesGIMP 2sharegimp2.0brusheslights.gbr
                             Error opening file “C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\brushes\lights.gbr”: Permission denied

I am new to GIMP but have worked out how to do most of what I need to do. Using v2.10 on OSX (Mavericks).

Using Tools/Transform/Rotate.

The menu appears and I can rotate by degrees by dragging the slider or using the Angle.
But everything I have seen on other posts suggests I should see the actual image itself rotate.

What I actually see is an outline of the image rotate - but it doesn't show me the picture rotating within it. i.e.., its difficult to see how much rotation I want when I can't see the image itself rotating.

When I press the ROTATE button, the orientation remains as it was but the image has rotated within it (hope this makes sense)


I am stupid I know - but it can't be that hard to rotate an image by degrees and see the results of the rotation on the image before I accept it...

Its windows I know, but I don't see that behaviour.

If I use Image/Transform/Rotate then I only get the 90 degree presets

Please help a newbie...

I do not see a link to post a new thread in the GIMP 2.10. How do we post there?

I have to admit I'm struggling a bit with Gimp "two ten" as I like to call it; can't seem to get the hang of making and saving my own brushes. Nor am I liking all the new fly-out menus. I'd love to find shortcuts to get past many of them...

My current problem is the way a zero hardness brush loads paint on a canvas. I'm getting these blobs of pure saturation with little to no paint at the edges.  My goal is an even spread of paint with zero hardness. This brush looks more like 80% hardness or something.

I use an old trusty laptop with touchpad- no pen or tablet; 2gb of video ram with an integrated video card.

I'm pretty sure it's either a Gimp bug or more likely, my settings are wrong- would appreciate some correction and guidance.

I do know one thing for certain- Gimp has changed so much since 2.6 I have to relearn it. Well done dev chaps!

This is not working for me.
It creates a selection with sharp corners instead.

Anybody else experiencing this ? Bug ?

Tried using Colors > Info > Smooth Palette, but it is not working correctly in 2.10. The composite image below shows the problem.
(This is the first time I have had to go back to 2.8 to do something - 2.10 has been good so far)

OK so I want to blur a rectangle (or it doen't matter the shape but it's a rectangle) against a transparent background. But every single one of the blurring tools don't care about the alpha at all. Every blurring tool in GIMP will just leave the rectangle's edge solid with all the contents blurred. Specifically I want to use the Motion Blur filter. The preview is always fine with the edges getting blurred and everything but even if I select the dang alpha channel there's always just a big solid rectangle with all the contents in it blurred. Is this a glitch or what? Anyone know what's going on.

I am trying to use gimp to edit NEF (nikon RAW) files, but it gives me this message:   

There is no RAW loader installed to open 'Raw Nikon' files.

GIMP currently supports these RAW loaders:
- darktable (http://www.darktable.org/), at least 1.7
- RawTherapee (http://rawtherapee.com/), at least 5.2

I attempted to add RawTherapee, but must be doing something incorrectly because i am still unable to open the files in Gimp.

Could anyone tell me which of the loaders they recommend, and how to install it so it will properly work with gimp?
