Can GIMP compress a png image?

I just downloaded Gimp 2.10 after years of working with Photoshop, Elements and Paint Shop Pro.  Is there a resource that I can read that will point out the primary differences that might keep me from working in Gimp because I am assuming something that is completely different?  So far I have failed miserably with the first task I want to do.  I collect ancient coins.  I want to assemble a single image made from two or more photos of coins - usually just the two sides but sometimes quite a few.  In other programs you can click on images and drag them around the canvas but I have not figured out how to do this on Gimp.  Below is a sample assembled image of one coin on a plain black background.  I know Gimp can do this but I can not.

Every time I stamp down a brush and then select the resize tool it wants me to resize the entire layer. I know I must be doing something wrong but can't figure it out.

These are Photoshop .ABR  brushes. I just simply dragged and dropped them into the GIMP2.0/Brush folder.

Hello, I need some help with finding a plugin/extension for 2.10.
I working through a mapping tutorial, and one of the steps calls for using the Felimage plugin. The tutorial was made for gimp 2.6, but so far I have been able to find everything else except this Felimage.

This is the part of the tutorial I am stuck on:

Hi all,

- Gimp2 version, 2.8.22

As I did in the past, I click on Filters in the top menu then on Script Flu and then on Refresh Scrips. After that script flu appears in the top menu.

Yesterday I found out that it doesn`t appear anymore, I re-installed GIMP2 but that did not fix this issue.

Is this a bug or has something changed from a certain GIMP2 version?

I am trying to make some paint.net layers into gimp layers by importing the layers. The background grey layer is not a problem but when I open another layer and then try to copy a selected green color area from another ( opened as a new gimp image) bmp image, the color isn't green but grey. So if I then use the color pickers on the green image and the paint bucket on the new layer, it still stays grey?

Given that didn't work, I tried with a new image and a base layer which also needed to be grey. Selecting that grey from another image also didn't work!  Sometimes there is a note in history that I have selected the background color when I know I haven't.

In other words, what is easy in paint.net seems very difficult with Gimp. I used it a lot 5 years ago without issues so I don't know why i's an issue now!

I have an image and am trying to apply the antialiasing filter.  I have followed the instructions here, and have gotten the filter to work correctly using the same sample image as in the instructions.  However, when I try to use my own image the filter has no effect, i.e. nothing visibly changes.  The image originally had a transparent background, which I thought might be the issue, so I converted the image to be only black pixels on a white background (exactly like the sample image), but the filter still has no effect.

I'm brand new to GIMP, and I'd appreciate any help with this, thanks!

When creating a logo with text/words, it appear clear/sharp on gimp, but after exporting to .png and uploading the lettering doesn't look as clear/sharp. Any suggestions?

I start by saying that I'm kinda a newbie with (gimp) palettes

When I created palettes until 2.8 version the colors were stored in gimp 2.8 ->palettes, it was useful as I could copy them for back-up purposes or migrate them in another machine like a laptop, but since version 2.10, I can't find the new palettes I created with the latest gimp anywhere, I used search function many times and only the old ones are still there. What when I have to change my PC soon and I want to import the colors from 2.10 to the new machine?

I tried export option: working only .txt and .css extensions, with the other formats gimp says error during the process

Import: nothing of the two remaining above is working, gimp says there isn't any color to import...

I tried to export an indexed .png and import colors from there (so I can use pngs as backup and for migration) but gimp says that the palette is unknown...

Hi guys,
I'm having a quit annoying problem for a few days now. If i want to paste a transparent image from my browser (Firefox) into Gimp, the transparency gets lost and what used to be transparent is filled with black. I've tried to copy and paste another transparent PNG from a different browser, but still the same problem. Is there a simple way to solve this problem?
