I'm working in Windows 7 for a bit and I really want the 2.9+ version of Gimp.  I use Patha's portable version so it won't mess up anything in my system.  Anyway, I spent so time getting it set up the way I want, adding brushes and other scripts etc.

Lots of my scripts and plugins worked fine until I put a .py script into the plugin folder.  This one:

After that, the Gimp wouldn't even start.  I removed the .py file and still it wouldn't work.  I had to remove the entire 'portable' folder and start over.  In the portable version the 'portable' folder is like the .gimp2.8 folder, where all the brushes, scripts, etc folders are.

This raises 2 questions:

First, does anyone know why something like this would happen?  And secondly, I read somewhere that all .py scripts need to go in the 'plugin' folder.  Really?  Is this a requirement or just a recommendation?

While there is explanation on each setting.
Together, i am overwhelmed by the number of settings and so also clueless on what each setting really does.
And testing each setting is insane because there are so many numbers of combinations.

My question is there a setting such that i can make the selection to path to try to keep details while getting rid of rough edges.
I know the two are kind of contradictory.

Like if you blur, you get smooth selections but you lose detail. Is there away to to keep detail while making clean/smooth selections?

With such many settings, i am hoping that there's a possible combination.

After I insert a text box, I haven't been able to find a way to relocate it, even after reading the manual. How do I move it?

Using the same font on Linux is a problem since it will look pretty different and then will take different space than before.

On windows it would look like this:


on Linux it looks different:


I need a way to make it take the same space as in Windows.

As I open gimp it uses sans which is similar to Tahoma but has a special spacing. In windows sans is using Arial for hebrew. Using just Arial or Thaoma would ruin the good spacing which is not available through the letter spacing setting.

How can I tell Gimp to use Arial instead of Tahoma for sans?

Gimp default hebrew font is that. It is similar to Arial, but narrower or thinner:

and with zoom. The 'ש' ל' and 'מ' are different than other similar fonts, like Nachlieli CLM. 



But I have no idea how it is called. Gimp called it sans, but sans is more like the font's type, so this font is pretty annonymus... Who can help? Do you know someone who can tell me it's name? I need this font (Gimp won't let me use it anymore after installing mscore fonts)

Maybe it is Arial but with a ifferent rendering? Can I change gimp rendering?

Edit: I'm not sure if it's Arial font as when I change the text to Arial in windows it has different spacing than before. So what is this font? A specific Arial? Why can't I find it's name?

How do I fix it so I looks like in Windows? Hinting and Anti aliasing haven't helped.

I've created this file with gimp before, and now if I open it, the font looks the same at start,
but when I try to edit it it becomes different, see pictures (first is normal, second is after making an edit to the text):

It may have happend after installing mscore fonts, but why would it happen? Isn't it the same font anyway? Is san font that comes with Ubuntu different than the one in mscore fonts?

Pls help me solving it as it causes mess in my documents, it takes more space as the font is pretty wider than before.

After editing an image how do I keep it at the same resolution that it was at previously?

I noticed in the small box that pops up when you 'export' that there was/is an advanced option. I clicked on it and it gave me an option to
'Use quality settings from original image' (Now that I have clicked the advanced + I don't get the advanced option any more - maybe it doesn't for an image previously exported with this setting.) It does however give 'load default and save default'

My question also would be do I need to put in a number for quality at the top - like when compressing?
